Apple Computer, Inc. currently has four Apple retail stores in Texas:
• Austin, Barton Creek
• Highland Park, Knox Street
• Houston, Houston Galleria
• Plano, Willow Bend
But, The Courier newspaper in Colleyville, Texas may have spilled the beans on a fifth Texas Apple retail store…
“With the addition of 40 new stores, a movie theater, new restaurants and a hotel, residents of Southlake and surrounding towns will have ‘no reason to go anywhere else’ but Southlake Town Square. At least that is what developer Brian Stebbins is hoping. ‘Besides adding more clothing and specialty stores like Coldwater Creek, Anthropologie, Brighton Collectibles, Apple Computer and Henredon, the Grand Avenue District will bring a nighttime atmosphere unequaled anywhere else in Northeast Tarrant County,’ Stebbins said,” Kim Roberts reports. “The District will also include two parking garages to accommodate the additional parking needs of the theater and hotel. The garages are set to be built and open in October 2005 in anticipation of the Christmas shopping season.”
Tarrant County is an urban county located in the north central part of Texas. Fort Worth serves as the county seat to a county population of approximately 1.4 million citizens. The county is in the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area.
A quick search on Apple’s job listings for Texas retail stores also shows positions open for another Texas store not listed on the main retail page of open stores: San Antonio-La Cantera, Texas.

There is also a new Apple Retail store opening in The Woodlands Mall, in The Woodlands, TX…. WHOOP! A lot closer than the one in the Galleria!
The article makes it sound like this is the first store in the Dallas area. Highland Park is a section of DOWNTOWN DALLAS. Southlake is about 10 miles outside of Dallas. So this is cool if you don’t want to deal with Dallas traffic.
This is great, but this isn’t exactly news anymore. Apple Insider first reported on this back in December, and even the Dallas Morning News mentioned it a couple of weeks ago in an article about the new addition to the Southlake Town Center.
I live in The Woodlands and can hardly wait. The manager of the Galleria store said its opening was delayed from April to July.
They are opening a new store in the South Shore Plaza in Braintree, Massachusetts, but they have had it covered up since before Christmas and still no word on it. They are paying rent on the space, why is it taking so long? Anyone have any info?

I guess I’m pretty lucky – I live halfway between Willow Bend & Knox Street – only have to decide whether to head North or South.

The Willow Bend store has a good demonstration area with a big screen and is in a larger space, but the Knox Street store has a slight advantage with the more knowledgeable employees IMHO… when Knox Street opened, it drew several of the better folks away from Willow Bend (and even a local MicroCenter, too).
Not sure I’ll want to drive all the way to Southlake, but in a pinch, it sure can’t hurt to have another option!
I like the willowbend store the best. The Knox Street one is too small.
oh yeah, this is like 2 miles away from my house, no more driving 45 min to willow bend.

On the other hand it is a drive for those of us in Ft Worth to travel to Willow Bend. The Southlake store will fill the needs of us one the west side of the metroplex. Thanks, Apple.

magic is good but the tlc people are certified rip offs and creeps.
Not only is this story not new, but it misses two of the three stores Apple is likely to open in Texas this year. The Woodlands in Houston and the Northpark Center in Dallas are also advertising for positions on Apple’s own website for new stores this year. With the San Antonio store to open on Sept. 16th, this makes EIGHT stores Apple will have in Texas when Southlake finally opens.
