“iPodlounger Ed Mouy has provided us with photos of an extremely large Apple billboard for the iPod shuffle in Australia. The advertisement is on the Nike store in Melbourne (corner of Bourke and Swanston Street) and is approximately six stories tall. ‘It’s a really good spot, it’s basically the central retail district of Melbourne,’ Mr. Mouy told iPodlounge. ‘Apple has used the giant billboard a few times for iMac ads and such,” Larry Angell reports for iPodlounge.

Apple needs to promote OS X and their computers. I don’t know of anyone who has not heard of an iPod.
To get more of the “halo” effect, Apple needs to show off its other products.
Garageband, iPhoto, OS X, and what about advertising the mac mini. Other than reviews, I have not seen one ad about the mac mini.
As an aside, I think I know this location. It’s the bit where the trams try to run over the pedestrians, isn’t it?

Apple has used this spot before. If memory serves they had a G4 iMac there a few years back. The position of the ad is very impressive as it’s in a very busy part of Melbourne. It’s been up for about a month now.
Ironic that something so small should be advertised so big.

‘Storey” is correct in the US also, when referring to buildings. But “story” is correct too, and more common in the US where the MDN is writing.
You don’t have to use the spelling “colour” just because you are writing ABOUT a UK product… you use YOUR spelling.
So MDN is right.
Otherwise, all writers in other countries has better use “color” when talking about something in the US

I’m afraid I have to agree that, despite ‘story’ looking like an absurd type to us Brits, that as MDN is a US site, and if it really is accepted spelling, then it’s probably OK.
Despite preferring UK spellings, and many US spellings being the visual equivalent of a scratched record, some of the US ones do make more sense. Color is one, and the use of zeds (Rationalize vs Rationalise), is another. I mean why not use the zed if it’s more appropriate to the sound ?
The disadvantage of the rationalisation of Story/Storey
is that it can introduce ambiguity and also limit the scope for word play. In the case of the headline above, the context makes it obvious, which is why it looked so wrong to us Brits I suppose.
Not to take this conversation so far off topic, but according to most linguists English of the UK is now considered a separate language (possibly dialect) to American English. I travel to the UK frequently, and to be honest, outside of the immediate vicinity of London, UK English is a foreign language.
But this is an American site, so I’ll guess everyone will just have to make sense of what they are writing. And it’s a Z, not zed.

Personally, I think things like American Idol are degrading society. Americans are becoming Dummer’er than they were 5 yrs ago..If there is one thing the brits do right, its Speak.
They really should put this type of commitment in adveritising those macs.If they really wanted people to like their computers,they’d do this.I think that apple is becoming less committed to their own original platform and getting more into mastering ones they didn’t create.
Story is correct in the United States when referring to one level of a multi-level building. Interestingly, the word storey is also correct. I suspect that the latter has only recently been approved by the compilers of dictionaries as it used to be that only story was correct.

Howdy y’all! Yep … see living in Oklahoma affected my speaking too … at least Eskimo Joe’s was a good (only) place to hang out! Pity there were no iPod Shuffles back then (1989-1991) I could have used them to back up my files (mag tapes are so last century!) and chill on some nice music while hacking programs in a near broom closet sized office at OSU!
Exciting times … not! I used to write my research papers in good old Aussie English (=UK English mostly) and my USA collaborators would muck up my spellings … and back and forth through multiple draft copies … of course the (usually US) Journal had final say and mucked up the spellings again. I think “colour” looks more attractive than “color” … too much logic in a language makes it too mechanical … like music … a good mix of structure and randomness (see pseudo-fractal music etc …).
MW is “eight” but I guess a US person would prefer to write “ate” as it is obviously more simple and phonetic. But I like “eight” just the way it is, especially in a nice font with that wiggly “g” and a good strong “h” and … am I gibbering yet … gibber … gibber … font-fetish … yum yum!
