EvolutionTV lets Mac OS X users watch and record TV in MPEG-4 and DivX

Miglia Technology has announced EvolutionTV, a new peripheral that allows users to watch and record TV on a Macintosh computer. For current digital TV customers, EvolutionTV connects to the receiver box via S-Video, enabling television viewing on a Mac in either window mode or full screen. The device’s built-in video compression technology also lets users record at the same time without burdening the Mac’s processing speed.

EvolutionTV, housed in an anodized silver aluminium case, allows the scheduling of recordings in advance, and is also tightly integrated with Apple’s iCal. It supports MPEG-2 or MPEG-4 and DivX, the latest video compression technology.

System requirements for EvolutionTV include a Mac with USB 2.0 connectivity, PowerPC G4/800 processor and higher, 256 MB of RAM, and Mac OS X 10.3.x and higher.

  1. except that I can’t use this product because I don’t have USB 2.0 and iMacs aren’t known for being too user friendly when it comes to installing new ports

  2. Firewire death? Maybe it isn’t the right choise for connecting an iPod, it outperforms usb2 in music and video applications. This is because firewire had a guaranteed troughput. That makes even firewire 400 a better choice for music and video applications. The iPod does not depent on contineous troughput.

If youre talking about the GumDrop iMac .. This.. might be just the ticket for you …”

um, mac dood, are you joking or stupid?

  4. Miglia also has a PCI video capture card that records in MPEG4, and an analog conversion box call Directors Cut Take 2 that converts video to MPEG4 and connects via firewire.

This new box, with its USB 2 and divx, even though it has mac drivers, is obviously targeted at windows users without firewire.

Sorry, no death of firewire story to see here. Move along.

I’ve installed usb 2.0 cards and firewire cards is countless macs and never had to so much as install a driver. What do you mean “not known to be too user friendly”?

no…but obviously you are the stupid one….. King alverez mentioned not having USB 2 on an iMac….. not knowing which iMac he has, I was offering him a possible solution….

Its called ..”being friendly”….. something youre apparantly are not accustom to..

  7. You all are joking right? The iMac doesn’t have USB 2, but it doesn’t matter how great the sonnett Tango card is. It is a PCI slot expansion card. The iMac, any iMac, Gumdrop, luxo jr, or G5 doesn’t have PCI expansion slots.

Its true that in a tower or desktop with OS 9.2 or better, that drivers are not even required after the card installation, but iMacs are pretty closed and completely incapable of PCI expansion.

USB 1 isn’t fast enough for the realtime capture of video. Older iMac users are kinda outta luck for doing video capture or TV recording
