Senior marketing executive resigns from Hewlett-Packard, joins Apple Computer

“Hewlett-Packard Co. announced the resignation of a senior marketing executive Monday, less than a week after HP’s board of directors fired the chairman and chief executive,” Rachel Konrad reports for The Associated Press. “HP Senior Vice President of Corporate Marketing Allison Johnson’s last day at the Palo Alto-based computer maker is Friday. Johnson, 43, will become vice president in charge of worldwide marketing communications at Cupertino-based Apple Computer Inc., where she will report directly to Chief Executive Officer Steve Jobs. Her first day at Apple is Feb. 21.”

Konrad reports, “HP emphasized that the brand guru’s resignation was independent of the ouster of Carly Fiorina, the company’s embattled former leader. Fiorina’s nearly six-year reign ended abruptly Wednesday when board members fired her and said she failed to slash costs and boost revenue as quickly as directors had hoped. Johnson resigned Feb. 4 – five days before Fiorina. Board members asked to her to remain ‘through the CEO transition,’ HP spokeswoman Stacy Katz wrote in an e-mail. The board also asked Johnson to stay until after the company reported first-quarter earnings, expected Wednesday.”
