  1. Used Software Update. Just works. But then, that’s why we use a Macintosh, isn’t it? When will our M$ brothers and sisters learn?
“Anal”-ists like Thurott, Enderl, and Dvorak never will understand.

  2. Caution: some iBook G4 users are reporting that their eject/F12 key no longer works after the update. mine didnt but after i repaired permissions and restarted it came back.

also seems to be a reasonable speed boost in Safari, iChat, and Mail launch times.

  3. I got a Kernel Panic on my PowerBook G4 just at the end of the installation process. Luckily, it restarted well after the panic and the update seems to be properly installed.

  4. Meanwhile, on the “other” platform, Microsoftopoly released a bumper crop of ‘critical’ Security Updates. It varies by client platform, but our WindowsXP Pro boxes at work took 13-14 different updates EACH.

It has also been reported that a Trojan is out and about that attacks Micro$oftopoly’s new Anti-Spyware program- still in Beta. Symantec also got ‘outed’ by a competitor on a malady that goes across a whole list of their software.

Aren’t You Glad You Use a Mac with Virex instead of a Wintel PC with Norton?

  5. Much as I would love to dive in and test the waters for everyone, my Tibook is “mission critical” so as always I will wait a week or so and gauge the fallout before doing the update.

  6. Ran the update whilst my 15″ Al Powerbook was burning from iDVD … restarted and mamma mia, fantastico! And my eject keyb button works just fine.

  7. Did the update last night and noticed the power light goes out when logged in. It was OK when sleeping. This morning, woke from sleep and couldn’t log in under either my wife or myself. Re-booted to single user and ran fsck -f and rebooted. All seems fine now!?!?

  8. I’d like to thank those walking point for this company, saving the rest of us from potential grief. Without full backup, I have to wait the week too.

On another note, the MDN MAWPUP has gone; time to get rid of the MAW now and restore the ‘Preview’ feature.

    Magic Word: Carried?

  9. Anyone running Norton Antivirus (I know, not many of you) needs to take a look at the Symantec site. Major buffer overflow error that effects virtually all their products, including those for the Mac.

  10. You see fools? I was right you pathetic luddites, yet another patch for OS X! When will you realize that your precious OS needs patches just like any other OS. At least Windows provides patches for their patches, just to be sure they might work. Think different? I do constantly.

  11. Rob, don’t be shy, not only Windows provides patches for their patches, they do provide patches that patch the patches that should have patched the previous patches to patch the patches to fix the latest patch.

Now, how can you compare THAT with Apple that only releases OS updates. Tsk tsk.

  12. Loaded through software update on my PB yesterday and noticed the following since then (previously using 10.3.7):
–Safari definitely snappier in loading web pages (NOT a small difference)
–my previous problem with the PB failing to wake up from sleep about 35% of the time is completely gone (this was a real pain in the arse)
    –eject key working just fine
–the “on” light on the latch no longer stays on when using the PB, but it blinks just fine during sleep (no big deal to me–I think I know when it’s on!)
    –no other problems
All in all, a great update so far!
