BusinessWeek: ‘this should be one of the most fascinating Macworlds in memory’

“Every year around this time, a great debate breaks out in one particularly colorful corner of tech land. That’s because early-January is when Apple CEO Steven P. Jobs takes the stage at the Macworld trade show in San Francisco to unveil his outfit’s first new products of the year,” BusinessWeek reports.

“Often, the ensuing controversies that follow are of interest primarily to die-hard Macolytes — should Apple have added an extra USB connector to this product or offered a faster chip in that one. But when he takes the stage on Jan. 11, the stakes could be considerably higher. That’s because rumor Web sites have been buzzing with talk of a sharp potential shift in strategy for the Cupertino, Calif., computer maker,” BusinessWeek reports.

“First, the word is that Apple will field a cheaper version of its hugely successful iPod digital-music player, one that uses lower-capacity flash memory to store songs, rather than a hard drive, as in current models. Even more worthy of note, many expect Apple to unveil a $500 Mac. Even without a monitor, that would be far more affordable than the $800 eMate machine sold mostly to schools, or the $1300 iMac… Add it all up, and this should be one of the most fascinating Macworlds in memory,” BusinessWeek reports.

OMG! They called the eMac and eMate! What a bunch of friggin morons.

  2. bd,

Those iHome photos are fakes. Oh yes, the photo and video are real it’s just that the product shown is made out of cardboard. Also, an enterprising poster at Apple Insider found out that Apple no longer owns the name “iHome”. Previously registered by them, it was allowed to lapse out of copyright. The word is spelled “Center” in the U.S., not “Centre” as in Europe and Canada.

It’s the same old same. Prior to every Keynote someone puts photos on the net and the same people “bite” and accept them as real. When they prove not to be, you never hear from those poor souls again…. that is until the next year.

Apple does not leave new products (in outer packaging yet) on the floor of Moscone Center 5 days before the start of MWSF. The product is sent there in sealed crates and is not opened until hours before the public is let in. In other words, not until early Tuesday morning just prior and during SJ Keynote speech. This has been the way things have occured at MW for 5 years or more!
    Duh……..

  3. bd.. Those iHome photos are not only fake.. as pkradd says.. but it’s pretty much unanimous that they’re fake.. so why would you say they’re real.. the engadget page has about 100 posts on it with ppl repeating the myriad of screwups on the box..

It’s supposedly two iBooks taped together.. if you look at the back ports.. it makes sense..

No TV connector and the box font is all wrong.. not to mention the text is upside down..

I believe it’s supposed to go.. release product, then release for retail packaging.. yes that’s the correct order..

  4. This Macworld is ALREADY better than sex. What will I be like on Wednesday?

    Aaaaahhhhhhhhhhh………. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”wink” style=”border:0;” />

  5. Well, Hellstudios,

I’m sure you’ll be beating something.

    Steve

P.S. – What I have for MacWorld couldn’t possibly live up to the hype. Don’t you idiots know most Mac romor sites (except CARS) are controlled by Microsoft? Bozos.

  6. Where are these photos that were mentioned earlier? I’d like to see what people are trying to pass off as authentic…

“followed” is my magic word. I wonder if I’ll be….

  7. Hellstudios,
Such is the state of affairs. Our lives are so empty now that all we can do is make everyone else stupid at best and mortal enemies at worst. Anyone has a clue how we got here?
