“Apple Computer is expected to purchase about US$4 billion-worth of IT products from Taiwan this year and to increase the amount to US$5 billion in 2005, the Chinese-language Economic Daily News (EDN) reported today,” Steve Shen reports for DigiTimes.
To cope with increasing business volume, Apple has expanded its procurement office in Taiwan to about 100 staff members, up from 20 three years ago. The company has also changed the name from Asia Procurement Office to Apple Procurement Office, the paper said.

Well of COURSE the dollar is holding up well to the yuan, with the Chinese central bank continuing to artificially tie its currency to the dollar through massive intervention. Why is that interesting again?

guppster means China, er… how should I put this diplomatically? …vigourously postulating that the island of Taiwan continues to be part of China, not an independent territory.
The answer, I think, is clear in the Hong Kong example: nothing economically. We seem happy to forgive Tianenmen Square etc. for the sake of $$$.
