U2’s latest no bomb, blasts to number one on U.S. pop charts

“U2 earned its sixth No. 1 album on the U.S. pop charts Wednesday as its new set ‘How To Dismantle an Atomic Bomb’ sold almost twice as many copies in its first week as 2000’s ‘All That You Can’t Leave Behind.’ The new Interscope album moved 840,000 copies in the Thanksgiving holiday week ended Nov. 28, according to sales data from Nielsen SoundScan… The album’s arrival was heralded by first single ‘Vertigo,’ which is featured in Apple Computer’s iPod/iTunes TV commercial,” Margo Whitmire reports for Billboard.

  1. I doubt Eminem will be around as long as U2 have been.

by the way MDN. This magic password thing does not work half the time, and that flash animation of the smilies on the right keeps me up at night.

  2. EMINEM? Who gives a crap what a self absorbed trailer-trash little white bitch who only has a contract cuz he’s givin’ Dre unlimited cone sold in four days. Come to think of it, why am I here? I couldn’t care less about U2’s record sales either…

  3. yeah eminem, nsync, and the backstreet boys… but they all suck

has that dude ever rapped about anything other than himself? i suppose thats better than ice, and rims, yyeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaahhh!

  4. “Finally the Canadians can join the PARTY!!”

just not Canadians living abroad with a foreign credit card. 🙁
    Good for the folks back home though!! ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”grin” style=”border:0;” />

  5. “Money makes the wold go ’round…”

In the Canadian iTunes, songs are $.99 and the U2 Box Set is $149.99. This equates into US dollars as $.83 per song and $126.49 for the U2 Box Set.

Now prescription drugs AND songs are cheaper in Canada. Perhaps it’s time to move north.

[These animated ads are so incredibly stupid and annoying!!! They totally cheapen what little quality remains at MDN.]

  6. So, we are now applauding U2 (and Apple I assume) for selling lots of records.

With this logic, we should be praising Microsoft as well, after all, market share is so important, right?

Remember guys….total sales of a record does not equate to fine music.

I could not care less how many records they sell. They are just four guys from Ireland who have milked the same riff and tired image for too long.

The new album is average at best. Two or three good tracks, nothing spectacular. I am glad I got it off P2P instead of paying for it, that is for sure.

But it is still cool if this somehow helps sell iPods.
