Sony to launch European ad blitz in attempt to derail Apple’s iTunes Music Store

“Sony Corp. next week will launch a marketing blitz in Europe for its new Connect music download store, its latest effort to derail the runaway momentum of Apple Computer’s iTunes service. The Japanese consumer electronics giant said on Thursday it would heavily promote the Connect service in new advertisements for four Walkman products, including the recently launched NW-HD1 hard disc player,” Bernhard Warner reports for Reuters.

“Also, Sony said its second wave of European expansion is still on track for later this year as the battle for Europe’s Web-savvy music fans intensifies. On Wednesday, Apple said it would announce a series of new European markets next month that would enable music fans in most of Western Europe to buy song downloads from iTunes,” Warner reports.

    More 180’s from the world of journalism..

    A couple weeks before the iTMS Europe launch, writers and analysts were warning that Apple shouldn’t expect similar success(to the US store) in Europe… as were Wippit guys and the other stores they had…

    They said the Europeans weren’t as interested in legal downloads as the Americans…

  3. Sony’s player DOES look very nice – it is the second most atractive player, in a completely different style to the iPod. Unfortunately, Sony’s interface and controls on their player are quite poor. They placed form above function, when the iPod proves that you can have both.
