Piper Jaffray: ‘Apple market share to grow over next two years ’

“Piper Jaffray said that over the next two years Apple Computer will grow its market share ahead of expectations, which will be a catalyst to its stock. Piper Jaffray said sees greater-than-expected adoption of iPods and Hewlett-Packard iPods translating to acceleration in sales of Macintosh computers,” Forbes.com reports.

“Also, iTunes ‘will emerge as psychological catalyst for shares of Apple in 2005,’ the research firm said. Strong iPod and iMac demand will lead to a strong fiscal first quarter ending in December, Piper Jaffray said. Apple could also get a boost from stronger laptop sales. The firm, which rates Apple at ‘outperform’ with a $40 price target, said that for the fiscal fourth quarter ending in September, 40% of resellers surveyed said PowerBook sales are ‘tracking above plan,’ while 30% said iBooks are selling better than expected,” Forbes.com reports.

Mac market share primed to explode? If not now, when? – September 25, 2004

  1. Keep plugging those features of the Mac: Great OS, open standards, free iLife, design, security, whatever is the hook for that person you’re talking to at the time; and don’t forget to plug the Windows features to be fair: viruses, blue screens, their true cost for comparable configuration,…

  2. As consumer confidence in Windows continues to implode due to virus and stability issues, we have to get the message out that the Apple Mac OPERATING SYSTEM is…

    1/ Stable
    2/ Data Secure
    3/ Virus Free
    4/ Intuitive and easy to operate.
    5/ Windows friendly in terms of operating and sharing files in a Windows majority world.

    All the reviews centre upon how Apple hardware is “sexy” and “stylish”.

    To take Apple popularity to the next level, we need to focus more on Operating System capabilities and benefits.

    The shift is happening – but it will be incremental, not an overnight revolution.

    One day, perhaps around 2007 when Longhorn hits the market, Bill and the boys will wake up to hear that Windows has driven off the end of a cliff in terms of customer loyalty.

  3. Glick7…

    While I agree with what youre saying, I’m not sure if what I would describe what the hapless users of WinCrap have with Billy Gates as “loyality”…

    I kinda think its more like blind masochism…

    Most PeeCeers are completely ignorant of the fact that there really is something else out there, which is more stable, secure… and actually worry-free.. (Mac OS)…

    But, considering the recent articles published here and elsewhere … perhaps, at least a few are starting to open their eyes…

    This can only be good news for Apple…

    And when the time finally comes…even the PeeCeers will figure out why Mac Users always seem to wear a knowing smile..

  4. Mac dood:

    Yes, I agree with you about the loyalty issue.

    Windows users are more like abused spouses… they just seem unable to break free of a controlling and abusive mate named Billy. They even go so far as to defend the abuse “Windows is a good system at its heart. It’s not Windows fault, its the hackers that make it that way.”

    Perhaps we need to open shelters for abused Windows users? Give them a secure operating system where they can finally learn that not all operating systems act like a controlling Windows OS.

    And… we need to prosecute the abusive mate when he tries to reclaim the poor abused user.

    Yes… the more I think about it, the more Windows Users resemble victims of the Stockholm syndrome.

  5. 190 milliion pc’s will be sold in 2004. (Not including ATM’s, checkouts, etc. Apple MIGHT sell 4 million. Plenty of room to expand market share. As soon as they offer something perceived as competitive, they will.

  6. Well, Apple has plenty of product available that is perceived as more than competitive, so that’s not the issue. Apple’s problem remains overcoming the stereotypes and FUD that still abound in the marketplace. Slowly but surely it’ll come around though.

  7. “…..And… we need to prosecute the abusive mate when he tries to reclaim the poor abused user….”

    Prosecute him ???…. LOL…

    I think the guy in Belgium had the right idea when he plastered Billy with a cream pie !!…

    Oh… I wish I thought of it first !!

    hmmmm, I wonder what the charge would be if I repeated his brave effort ??

    Assult with a dangerous pie ??

  8. “Well, Apple has plenty of product available that is perceived as more than competitive, so that’s not the issue…………………..”

    Dave, there is no way that FUD is keeping 97.5% of new computer buyers from purchasing Macs. There are pricing, funny looking units, supply delays, and true incompatability with popular business programs also to blame. Another little problem is that the windows experience is not nearly as awful as constantly presented here.

    There is also Apple’s obvious appreciation for the way things are. They don’t advertise effectively, so I assume they don’t care. I think any Mac owner should ignore market share and be happy for their experience. There will be macs to buy for as long as we will need them.

  9. Come on Joe McConnell, it’s not the number of PC’s sold, it’s the number of PC’s using Windows 6 months after the sale that is important. A lot of PC’s sold have some flavor of Linux installed. A lot of frustrated users add Linux after the sale and dual boot or wipe Windows off the hard drive. And yes, lot of users wipe Linux off the hard drive and install a bootleg version of Windows and, finally, a lot of people remove XP and put NT or Win 2000 on instead.

    As for cheap computers, buyers go to buy the $400 to $600 PC, add what they need to add to do the things they want to do and pay $800 to $1000. They then find they can’t do what ever it is they want to do, Photos, movies, surfing, e-mail, what ever it is, because lousy software, spy-ware, add-ware, and viruses prevent the the whole process from working properly. Soon after these initial failures the computer joins the exercise equipment as another post modern clothing rack, is put in the closet or remains on the desk as a cat warmer.

    The PC experience is not as awful as it is described here only if you have a team of IT weenies looking after everything for you. If you are home with your PC, alone, naked on the net, it can be verrry scarrry.

  10. “Another little problem is that the windows experience is not nearly as awful as constantly presented here.”

    Here we go again.

    Joe, do you realize that the biggest buyers of Windows PC are the home consumers with kids? What do kids do? They download all that crap that eventually slows down the PC and a finally makes them un-usable. Are there warnings on these Windows PC’s about spyware, viruses, VBS scripts, and etc? I have never seen one.

    These consumers don’t know diddly-squat about firewalls, updates, anti-virus and anti-spyware software. (If they do know about it, they don’t want to be bothered by it. And you know what? They shouldn’t have too either.) As long as Microsoft allows their software to be sold on cheap $400 systems (last I heard, you don’t need to be a Tech to buy a PC at the local Wal-Mart), and doesn’t put out warnings, then yes, there are going to be problems.

  11. Joe, lately it took me 3 evenings to save a PC of a friend. Anybody who has experienced the two OS’s should be able to make a plain choice. You only can have three reasons to ‘choose’ Windows. 1) You want to be cheap. 2) You are afraid of becoming part of a minority. 3) FUD (not knowing the truth). The reality is there are no drawbacks in owning a Mac and only advantages. You will first have to find freedom in order to be able to appreciate freedom.

  12. Joe, do you realize that the biggest buyers of Windows PC are the home consumers with kids?
    ~~~~~~
    Or Businesses! Hello…
    Ever heard of Dell? They got started selling hundreds of thousands of boxes to companies … that’s how they afforded to skip the retail presence…
    Enderle estimates 75% of PC’s out there are for businesses (no matter what you think of the source)
  13. Yawn. Keep flapping your jaws boys. I don’t have time to break the truth to a new team of macophiles. It is so tedious.
    Just explain why it is 2.5% please, and likely to stay that way, despite all the old anecdotal and theoretical arguments a devoted community can dredge up.
  14. With all this hilarious banter back and forth going on…..
    I would like to remind Joe…. and all the other PeeCee weenies who like to post here…. that
    cockroaches outnumber humans by a factor of about 1,000 to one, on this planet …. but ..
    That fact doesnt make them the higher form of life !
  15. [Keep flapping your jaws boys. I don’t have time to break the truth to a new team of macophiles. It is so tedious.]
    With the amount of time that you spend here ‘trying’ to reprogram the Macophiles, Joe – you could have earned the money to by that PowerBook G4 that you’ve been wanting. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”wink” style=”border:0;” />
