PC Magazine reviews Apple Power Mac G5 Dual 2.5GHz: 4 out of 5 stars

“The new dual-2.5GHz Power Mac G5 is a nice step up from the Power Mac G5s we’ve seen before. Graphics pros and media outlets that need the fastest available speed will want to upgrade now, but most users with recent-vintage G5 machines (especially dual-2.0GHz models) don’t need to jump on this upgrade,” Joel Santo Domingo writes for PC Magazine in his review of Apple’s Power Mac G5 Dual 2.5GHz where he awards the machine 4 out of 5 stars.

Joel Santo Domingo writes, “Though the latest Power Mac G5’s sleek, perforated tower doesn’t look much different from previous models, the new system has a few new tricks under its hood. Chief among them are dual 2.5-GHz G5 processors

  1. Are the Pee-Cee magazines realizing Apple’s market share is only going to rise and Windows is only going to drop? Perhaps they want to gain readership and advertising revenues by broadening the base of products they review?

  2. “The power button on the Cinema Display controls the PowerMac’s power functions, so you don’t have to stoop down to wake up your Mac (or put it to sleep)”

or you could just touch the mouse…..duh

  3. Imagine their shock and awe if they saw how a PowerBook handles the sleep function. I imagine it would be like a caveman seeing an Boeing 777 if they’re that impressed by the power button on the Cinema Display…

  4. “The power button on the Cinema Display controls the PowerMac’s power functions, so you don’t have to stoop down to wake up your Mac (or put it to sleep)”

    Ohh what an innovative feature…

  5. Don’t feel so bad, JJ. I have a Dual 1.8Ghz G5, and It doesn’t feel like an old machine by any stretch of the imagination, yet. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”smile” style=”border:0;” />

  6. if it got 5 of 5 stars, that means there is NO ROOM for improvement. And there is always room for improvement. The highest anything should be able to get on a scale of 5 is a 4.5 or 4.75.

    The Dude abides

  7. Read the review. The machine tested had the mid-range graphics card and a single 160GB hard drive. He would have also given extra points for a dual-layer DVD burner.

Of course, had he tested a machine with the 6800 Ultra DDL and a dual 250 GB internal RAID he might have complained about the price. Not a negative word about price in this review. Gotta see that as a good thing.
