CSFB: early interest in the Apple iMac G5 ‘appears robust’

“Credit Suisse First Boston said early interest in the Apple Computer iMac G5 ‘appears robust.’ CSFB said customer demand appears strongest for the 17-inch model with the CD/DVD burner while supply of 20-inch iMacs ‘seems most limited.’ The research firm said that on the supply side, Apple’s key iMac supplier in Asia offered a ‘relatively bullish tone regarding its ability to meet iMac demand in the calendar third quarter.’ CSFB said its fiscal fourth-quarter estimates assume iMac shipments (not including eMac shipments) remain flat quarter-over-quarter at 60,000 units. ‘Based on our checks with stores and suppliers, we believe there could be material upside to our estimate despite [Apple] releasing the product with only two to three weeks remaining in the quarter,’ the firm said. The new iMac presents ‘another leg of strong product momentum and a boost to its underperforming consumer desktop product line,’ CSFB said. Longer term, the firm remains concerned that Apple’s pricing and the ability for IBM to meet G5 processor demand may hinder results. CSFB rates Apple at “neutral” with a $35 target price,” Forbes reports.

MacDailyNews Notee: Apple is currently trading at $36.68 at the time of this article’s publication.

  1. I have a 20″ iMac on my desk — it’s superty-duperty (really)!

Sleek, quiet, fast, pivots and swivels easily, and two pages of text can fit side-by-side comfortably on the screen.

  2. Don’t listen to them. I am always right with my Apple predictions!

The iPod mini will be a total failure
The iTunes Music store will lose to Sony and Microsoft
The iMac G5 will be a total failure
    Apple is doomed! Doomed!

  3. I saw both of these machines last night, actually, and the 17″ looked so small!!! really – to me, it looked like a 15″ screen, and I think it’s because the 16:9 ratio… but it really looked puny. The 20″ looked great, though…

  6. I vaguely understand pretending to be the opposite sex while online.

I don’t understand an adult pretending to be a child online.

Don’t we warn our kids about adults like these?

  7. I retract my previous biased opinion about the new G5 iMac.

I think the recent removal of my frontal lobe caused me to develop some short term lapses in intelligence.

The doctors say that my limbic system should compensate in a few more days.

  8. I popped into a few computer and appliances stores around town (Auckland, NZ) today and noticed a number of people either enquireing or pre ordering the new G5 iMac which is apparently due here at the end of the month in limited numbers. I also observed a lot of people who would otherwise be PC owners looking at all the Mac gear which was actually a bit hard in some stores being that they are out of stock and have been out of stock for some weeks. Other than that I would say things are looking very rosey for Apple right now.
