Apple gets formulas for iPod and PowerBook just right

“If you don’t nail it the first time, keep fine-tuning and you’ll eventually get the formula just right,” Chris Cobbs writes for The Orlando Sentinel. “Examples: The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers — the sequel was a bigger hit with critics and at the box office. Super Bowl III — Joe Namath guaranteed a New York Jets win, and pro football’s biggest game has never been the same. And now, the fourth-generation iPod — a click wheel and longer-lasting battery have fixed minor glitches in Apple’s popular digital music player.”

“I also spent some time with the latest version of Apple’s 17-inch PowerBook. This is the second incarnation of the head-turning, aluminum-clad laptop that defines high-style for mobile users. It doesn’t add any major improvements in the class of the fourth-generation iPod, but there are numerous little touches that add polish… When Apple gets around to next model, I’d like to see the keyboard moved from the base of the screen and toward the front. As it is, the wrist rest is just too wide and often pokes into the user’s arms,” Cobb writes.

  1. The PBs are nice… would like faster speeds though. If the Windows world can do it, Apple shouldn’t be as far behind as they are. Other than performance, Apple is tops to me.

Faster PBs already! Still waiting to throw some money at Apple.

  3. Love my PB 17 1.33, it’s way better than the Thinkpad it replaced (though Thinkpads aren’t bad, for Windoze). He’s probably right about the placement of the keyboard, though it’s a pretty minor quibble in the larger scheme of things…

  4. I have the 17″ PB and my 2 bothersome experiences (not really complaints) is the lack of a keypad on the right of the keyboard and sometimes when I type too quickly going for the left shift key, I rip off the Z key but pops back on no problem.

Like I said, these are just bothersome, far from complaints.
