Apple has released Java 1.4.2 Update, now available from Software Update, which improves stability, memory usage, and correctness. Java 1.4.2 Update requires Mac OS X v10.3.3 or later.
With the Java 1.4.2 Plug-In, Safari supports websites that use LiveConnect for communication between JavaScript and Java applets, letting you work with more Java-based websites than ever before on the Mac.

Wow! Amazing!
I dunno, I think this one did my dual USB G3 iBook in…It is hanging up right before it gets to the login screen…If anyone can help me out or know what might happened I would really appreciate it, I am really not trying to do a full reinstall right now…..THANKS APPLE. 🙁
Haven’t tested it on my G3 Dual USB iBook yet, but all updates are installed and running smoothly on my G5. No problems so far.
Safari now closes immediately when trying to load a java-intense page. this sucks.
I’m installing Java 1.4.2 as I type. The problem I have been having is Word X keeps crashing since I installed OS X 10.3.5.
Errrrrrr…
I hate when this shit happens…Steve, you need to come back, what in the hell is going on there in Cupertino???
Wow, sounds like just the same old shabby Mac quality control to me.
I think I’ll sit this one out for a day or two.
Anyone have any results with either a 12 inch new PowerBook or the original flat screen iMac?
Installed it last night, no issues what so ever on my TiBook 667.
Installed it last night on my G4 upgraded beige G3 running Panther (XPostFacto).
No Problems.
Fine on my PB12. Same with 10.3.5, although I use Word 2004. Do any of you having problems do the standard housekeeping stuff? Repair permissions, that sort of thing?
Has anyone tested the Java update with Safari 1.2.2, and with Safari 1.2.3, the latter of which you will have if you have updated to Panther 10.3.5?
Where would one test online Java apps?
THANK GOD! Virtual tours are back on my Mac at last!!!!!
I was really hoping this update would increase incorrectness….
Installed on 600 MHz iBook. No problems.
Installed both 10.3.5 and Java update without a hitch on my Titanium powerbook. I have Word X, which works as before. Before people blame Apple for quality control. they want to make sure that they have not some third party hack or software installed, which broke things with the update. Apple can’t check their updates against all possible 3rd party hacks/software. I once had a problem in Mail, which I was ready to report as a bug to Apple, until I realized I had at some point modified Mail via a MacOsX hint. Undoing that hack restored full functionality.
Updated my dual usb iBook and Dual 800mhz G4. Both are running great. My only grip is Limewire no longer launches.
just ran the updates on my 17PB. no problems at all
Installed on my 1.8 Single G5, on my G4 DP 800 QS, on my G4 DP 1.25, my iBook G4 800 and on my 14″ iBook G4 1.2 Ghz. No problems whatsoever on my machines But then again I don’t believe in over-medicating my machines with Norton Utils, anti-virus and all that crap. I just run cocktail once a month & Disk warrior quarterly.
why do they call it “update 1”
why do they call it “update 1”
Because it’s the first update to Java 1.4.2??? Don’t ask me, I’m just a girl!
I updated to 10.3.5 (along with the Java update), I also cannot get Limewire to launch. Anyone have any idea if its a problem with Java incompatibility or is it Limewire? Help!!!
