Apple SoHo’s two millionth customer a Windows switcher, wins iBook, iPod mini, more

Apple Computer has announced, “around 4:00 p.m. on Friday, August 6th, our two millionth customer, Christine Quiqless, came through the front door of the Apple Store in SoHo. She was awarded a 12-inch iBook G4, Silver iPod mini, Airport Express and other gifts.”

“While shopping elsewhere, Christine begged her friend to stop by the Apple Store to look at 12-inch iBooks. Her PC laptop had recently died and was ready to make the ‘switch’ to Mac. After winning, she decided to spend some time shopping for a printer and other accessories for her new computer.”

  1. She switched and got all this stuff? When I switched, I had to pay for everything……lucky her.

Stupid friend who wanted to continue shopping. At least it didn’t go to another user who might just have kept the iPod MINI and sell everything else on eBay.

  2. Glad to see these prizes went to someone that will use and appreciate them, just like the winner of the 100 Millionth song sold on iTunes which was thankfully a Mac person and not a Peecee loving Windoze user.

  3. Christine,

Please don’t think most Mac users are idiots using sexist slurs to describe fine women such as yourself. Ignore Boeing777 and librium and their ilk. They’re not real Mac users.

    Steve

  4. Pretty girl, pretty lucky, nice story. She should be in a switcher commercial.

I wanted to go to the Apple Store and my friend went like … nnNN? [camera pans to friend’s sheepish grin].

  5. I am visiting New York right now and was in the SoHo store earlier this week. It was packed with people. Folks were lined up 15 deep to get to the registers/cashiers, and every computer table on the floor had swarms of people who wanted to play with the Mac stuff. The Genius Bar alone must have had about 15-20 at it, with about 5-6 ‘geniuses’ helping customers.

I asked one of the employees if the store was usually that busy and he said, “Yeah, but especially when new products are released.” The iPods (4G and minis) were *flying* off the shelves and I saw 2-3 people with new laptops that were just sitting on the floors of the theatre playing with their new aqcuisitions.

My point is that I’m not surprised that SoHo has had over 2 mil customers. It was full of people on both days that I went (during the week, *not* the weekend) and they weren’t just window-shopping, they were spending lots of cash and walking out with huge bags of stuff.

I’m glad Apple’s retail stores are doing well. Congrats to Christine.

  6. Congrats Christine ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”smile” style=”border:0;” />

Nice win for Apple too, seeing as she was a potential switcher whose PC had recently died.

And as far as that dead PC is concerned, ho-hum, so what else is new?!?!?

  7. Let’s not forget that SOHO is a great neighborhood and the store is a great place to hang out. People are always talking to each other and the store itself is a show stopper. People randomly stop in cos’ they have no idea what it is.

Agreed on the sexist comments, probably PC weenies anyways…

  8. So I have to mention again, it is a FACT that people who have a PC already HAVE a monitor. So why doesn’t Apple sell a headless mac??? Steve job’s is ALWAY’S correct. He said people don’t want it. Every attempt to sell a computer that hooks up to a TV have failed. Apple would not be where it is today without the original Apple II. The money FROM THAT was used to create Lisa-mac. So a strange thing happens when you think Steve is ALWAYS correct–Apple NEVER sold any Apple II’s, and therefore had NO money to create Lisa-mac. YOU are not reading this because the company went out of business in the 80’s. Hey Apple, give me the headless mac, along with BASIC.
