Apple pulls iPhoto 4.0.2 Update without explanation

Apple Computer has removed the 5.9MB iPhoto 4.0.2 update without explanation. Apple released the update on Monday.

The update is currently listed on Apple’s iPhoto Support page, but the download link no longer takes you to an active download page. iPhoto 4.0.2 was supposed to fix minor issues with Smart Albums and European books, and provide notification when new versions of iPhoto are available, according to Apple’s notes.

MacDailyNews Note: On Monday, we installed it on a few different Macs and have not encountered any issues (that we can see) with the update.

  1. It could well be a flike coincidence, but PS CS went blooey immediately afterward… ringin bells, dialog boxes appearing and disappearing, locked layers that won’t unlock, attempts at saving doc that I didn’t ask for… Even after a CS reinstall…

    No other apps seem affected.

  2. It is slower. It crashed twice trying to import photos from my USB reader and only showed two new pictures (I had 20). I ended up importing them manually (via the menu) and then it even copied duplicates without asking…….

  3. Jenny, I am sure it was more than coincidence. I will be paying close attention to the behavior of Photoshop CS over the next couple of days to make sure things aren’t all screwy.

  4. My truck seemed to run considerably slower today after installing the iPhoto update.

Even after a complete shutdown and re-start, the performance was severely crippled.

  5. Just tried opening CS after iPhoto update and got an unexpected quit. Is there an un-install? Or I guess I could re-install previous version… Damn my desire to stay on the bleeding edge.

  6. I had to call my grandma ’cause I felt really sick after installing Iphoto. My Grandma said that I should reinstall my ice-cream machine into the library folder, then Iphoto will run smooth again – IT DID!! Thanks Grandma!

  7. It is a shame that Apple continues to bring premature updates !
My eMac, 1ghz 1gb memo, did not suffer any iPhoto problems after the update but it is not the first time that others do experience difficulties.
