“Less than 24 hours after Apple Computer began informing customers that it would miss the July ship date for its 2.5 GHz liquid-cooled Power Mac G5s, the company did an about-face on its statement and is actively shipping the new computers,” Kasper Jade reports for AppleInsider.
“In an email to Power Mac G5 purchasers this morning Apple said: ‘Recently, we notified you of a delay with your order. We are very pleased to report that we have revised the shipping estimate for your order. We now anticipate shipping your G5 by Monday, August 2. This shipping estimate is based on our very latest information and supersedes all previous communications regarding the status of your order,'” Jade reports. “Several hours later, the company began shipping customers the Power Mac systems, as predicted by AppleInsider earlier in the week.”

Good news. I hope they’d be able to do this for more products in the future.
don’t tell mr. ‘glass half empty’ thurrott
So much for all of the panic yesterday over missing the July 30th ship date…
I would really like to be able to buy something the day it’s announced, or would like to know that when they announce something, it’s at least on it’s way.
What good are claims of ‘fastest’ or ‘cheapest’ or ‘best’ or ‘first to market’ when you can’t even buy what they’re selling until months later?
People gripe when Apple DOESN’T announce new products in advance and they wind up purchasing yesterday’s model though they could have waited. There’s nothing wrong with knowing in advance that something is coming, especially when it ends up becoming available almost exactly when Apple said it would be.
Just chill.
Well done Apple. Again.
I wish I could afford a dual 2.5Ghz liquid cooled G5.
But I’m happy with my iBook ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”grin” style=”border:0;” /> At least the OS is stable.
My entry to OSX — yes, finally! — will be via the dual 2.5 and an iMac with almost all the options, including Airport Express. I just don’t want to pull the trigger until I can get everything in on one day. I was ready in July, given up on August … better be September.
I’m with you, twelveightyone. I’m happy with an iBook as well and lust after a G5. But just like you said, at least the OS is stable! I’ll take a slower, stable Mac any day over a 3+GHz unstable, ugly, crapfest of a PC running Winblows!
Don’t regret getting my 2GHz G5. It rocks.
2.5+liquid is cool, but now I can wait until G6 in another 2 to 3 years.
g$,
My iBook uptime: 17 days, 3 hours, 21 minutes.
The only reason I restarted was because I wanted to ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”grin” style=”border:0;” />
As a buyer of one of those brand new 2.5s, I can tell you that all the Apple e-mails with all their revised shipping dates are making me dizzy!!!
