Apple threatens to sue Fuse music channel over risque iPod-like ads

“Apple Computer is outraged over new advertisements by upstart music channel Fuse that resemble ads for the iPod, Apple’s popular digital music player, The Post has learned. Apple lawyers have been calling Fuse and threatening to sue unless the ads – which went up in outdoor locations in New York City on Monday – are taken down,” Tim Arango reports for The New York Post.

“Not only do the ads resemble Apple’s iPod ads, but they also are quite risque: one depicts a man masturbating, while another shows a woman pole dancing. Apparently, Apple has received numerous calls from iPod users who have expressed outrage over the advertisements, a source said. Spokesmen for Apple and Fuse were unavailable for comment,” Arango reports.

  1. Imitation is flattery?

Very apropos anyway since most posters here are part of a feel good circle jerk. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”wink” style=”border:0;” />

  2. ‘Come’ on, Joe. Join the party.

All you have to do is – get someone to buy you the proper equipment! ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”wink” style=”border:0;” />

So iPod user don’t have a sense of humor? Come on, lighten up! Go read your latest issue of The Onion and pipe down already!

  4. While I don’t have a problem with the silhouettes, I do think the “Watch Different” slogan has got to go when associated with the silhouettes.

While I have no problem with parody and I have no problem with people taking a concept and changing it to suit their purpose (eg, “Watch Different”), there is a fine line between imitation/flattery and outright theft and these people crossed it.

  5. Every designer I know over the past year has copied the ipod ad design – whether it was for a brochure, direct mail or whatever.

One of them even used the ipod mini colours for a wedding invite!

This sums up how simple a concept it is and how effective it is too!

To be honest – the silouette idea is such a clich now.

Time to get some new ideas to copy guys!!! (especially you guys at J2 Design in Bushey!)

  6. The jerk off one is just fucking embarrassing. I mean, who jerks off to music videos anyway. They don’t last long enough and only a few “qualify”.
