Apple is offering their “Cram. And Jam” education promotion. College students – and K-12 and higher ed faculty – who buy an iPod and a PowerBook or iBook can get $200 back. Combining this with Apple

  1. Students get money from the Government, money from scholarships, money from their parents, money from part time jobs, and now, money from Apple. When I went to school, I had to walk there, 3 miles, barefoot, through 2 feet of snow, uphill, both ways. Kids have it so easy nowadays.

  2. When I went to school, I had to drag an 80lb anvil behind me for 20 miles over dry rocky terrain whilst my feet were nailed to planks of wood for shoes.

    And will be for some time.

    But I did only have to walk 2 miles, with shoes, in the pouring rain.

    When I go to school, I have to drag my Dell DJ behind me, 50 miles uphill, both ways. And then everyone laughs at me because I have a Dell DJ.

    Only 3 miles? You had it easy. When I were a lad I had to walk 18 miles each way over broken glass.

    When I went to school I used to have to get up two hours before I went to bed, walk 20 miles through acid (uphill both ways) dragging Michael Dell as he sang the songs I’d *like* to have put in an iPod, have knives stabbed in my legs during lessons, and when I came home, mi Mam and Dad would make me recite the entire bloated WIndows XP code, then kill me, and then dance up and down on my grave singing Hallejulah.

    And you know what? You try telling that to kids today, and…

    I had to lug one of those Acer 17″ laptops (Acer AS1711SCi) for one whole mile. Now that is a serious backbreaker. But hey, it has up to one hour of battery life- so all is good.

  11. i nver went to school cuz i koodn’t walk 3 miles, barefeet, thru 2 feet of snow, uphill, both ways while dragging an 80lb anville behind me. But i can still use a Mac.

I went to boarding school so I only had to walk down the stairs to “go to school.” But I remember I had to walk 450 meters uphill to go to the town bar for a hot brandy at night, or 700 meters to go to the disco on the weekends. There were no computers then but the school would play your 45 rpms as a wake up call. I think that teaching computers and languages at school is a cop-out of the education system. No wonder there are so many ignorant creationists. By all means, give the kid a computer — he’ll learn to use it all by himself.
