With prices of ‘g’ nearly the same as ‘b’ why would anyone want the much slower standard. I’m going to get eveything fitted wtih ‘g’ just in time for ‘h’ or whatever letter will be next and faster.
If my memory is correct, the b’s were the same price as the g’s. The g’s just would not work in older mac’s. I never did heard a good reason for that.

A lot of people still have Macs that don’t take AP Extreme cards, just the older ones. I’d be annoyed if I didn’t already have one in my Quicksilver…
I have a QuickSilver Powermac and those only take the original AirPort cards. Does anyone know if the original AirPort cards will do live streaming of music to the new Airport Extreme devices? If no, then could I use a PCI card to do the same thing?

Nope, before yesterday, Airport original cards were $79, and Airport Extreme were $99. Now Airport cards are gone, and people with only slightly older machines are SOL.
I think its great that people sit around refreshing their browser just so they can be first post. Not. Me I play games on my AlienWare PC (AMD Powered) & look at porn.

but, if you add a ‘b’ device to a ‘g’ network, everything on the network defaults to b.
you can get a ‘g’ pci card for your tower from belkin, and d-link makes a usb dongle sized one for your ibook/tibook/imac/emac…. for $45….
The reason AE cards won’t go into older Macs is the connection of the system bus supposedly can’t handle the increase in data. The newer Macs have a faster connection to the system bus for their Airport cards.
But some people report they can get PCMCIA cards to work in PowerBooks that have those kinds of slots.
I think as long as Airport has been on the scene, as long as Apple gave us to get the original cards for our older Macs and as long as we’ve been saying “we’re going to get them” Apple had every right to discontinue the B card. The people who really wanted them have them by now, the others should heed the warning and snatch up those still in reseller’s inventories.
At the end of the day supporting your customers is very important, but it becomes counter-productive to supply their every needs for a Mac going to the grave with the customer! Bottom line, its really bad business. They’d like to convince you to upgrade one of these days.
