“Earlier this week, I got an e-mail from a reader that said: ‘As a PC user who juggles multiple applications to complete multimedia projects, I’m jealous of the integrated approach’ of Apple’s iLife programs. ‘Is there any product on the PC that comes close to the integrated solution you’ve discussed so many times for the Mac platform?’ I get these e-mails regularly. When you buy a Macintosh, you get a free suite of excellent, integrated programs, called iLife, for managing and editing photos, music and videos, and for creating DVDs and CDs that include these multimedia files. The programs include iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD and iTunes,” Walt Mossberg reports for The Wall Street Journal.
“All of these functions have been available on Windows from various companies, but not in a truly integrated suite that has a unified user interface and works together well,” Mossberg writes. “And the individual Windows applications for doing these things have tended to be harder to use than Apple’s.”
“But I have been testing the first program that claims to bring iLife-type simplicity, integration and power to the Windows PC. It’s called Easy Media Creator 7, and it’s from Roxio,” Mossberg writes.
Mossberg then delves into the features of Apple’s iLife vs. Roxio’s attempt to mimick Apple and finds, “Overall, I found Media Creator to be significantly inferior to the Apple suite. It’s harder to use, less consistent in the way it works, less well integrated, and it fails to display the same delicate balance between power and simplicity that is the real strength of the Apple software.”

MacDailyNews Take: The hodge podge concept of cobbling together hardware from multiple outfits, running an OS from another, and then applications from yet another isn’t ever going to match Apple’s elegant, integrated solutions.
Tru Dat
Take a look at the picture on iLife package and on the Creator 7, the image on the box speaks the true nature of the software.
Roxio image: http://roxio.com/en/products/ecdc/index.jhtml
Apple iLife: http://www.apple.com/ilife/
Roxio admits that their application is NOT integrated!
If the Apple bundled software is so great…
Would not the general public be flocking to the superior product. I thought that the principals of capitalism stated that the best product or service will succeeded.
Is there a force in play that is tilting the playing field of capitalism towards Microsoft… ?
I don’t think so…
Microsoft just has better products period !
PS:
is it true that there will not be any new announcements on Monday ?
no live internet feed ?
no new anything ?
just the dancing Steve’e show…

Roxio Media Creator 7 = $80.00
Apple iLife = $0.00
hmmm…..
better and free with no nasty bugs and such in the OS…
I will take one of the Mac’s please.

Sputnik,
you said…

Don’t be naive or stupid… in the classroom, you can state and prove anything. In the real world people are cheap and will willingly buy junk to “save a buck or two”. Including buying obsolete technology (PC’s) and kludge operating systems (windoze).
sputnik! well, interesting concepts. but when looking at the aesthetics of the dancing steve show – how does that compare to the other dancing steve (monkey boy) show.
we have 2 dancing steves – one sweats profusely, the other hides it with black turtlenecks. and i wonder if monkey boy is still going through puberty – his screams tend to squeal with the zeal or a 13yr old.
thoughts?
(and i apologize for not tackling the capitalism analogy – the dancing steves metaphor was just too enticing to let go)
i agree with citizenX the only reason why windows is so popular is because its cheap and cheap aw and cheap aw almost forgot its crap but most people cant see it, they can get a 300 computer and be happy with it, the reason why they are happy is that they dont know anything about it, just like you sputnic.
Sure our Easy Media Creator 7 software is inferior to Apple’s iLife suite. Duh. But, on the superior MS Windows platform our software is the best choice and really is good enough. If you pay $499 for a computer what do you expect?
Are people still rising to Sputnik’s ‘trolling’ ?
It’s not even proper trolling. Aren’t any of you able to spot sarcasm any more ? Not even the “dancing Steve show”.
I’m usually highly entertained by Sputnik’s posts and astonished when people rise to it.
Sputnik,
I need to increase my reality distortion field. Could you give me a lesson in bald-faced lying? You do it so well!
Regards,
Steve (no, the OTHER Steve)
“significantly inferior”
well, doh! What did you expect dude?
Hywel:
You have to remember that many of those here are American, and have had irony bypass operations.
Hywel and MCCFR,
I’m not American by birth, and my major problem with Sputnik is that his “irony” isn’t amusing, it’s just plain annoying, especially as it’s unoriginal and repetitive. His moldy one-note act has rapidly reached the same level of intellectual repartee as a six-year old whining “Are we there yet?” every ten seconds. Once or twice is cute, but Jesus, enough already! The signal to noise ratio on this forum has gone through the goddamned roof.
Damn. Hit the “Submit” button. Sputnik would be tolerable if his trolling wasfunny. Unfortunately, it isn’t and he isn’t.
sputnik…here’s a great article for you to read…

I think it fits you to a “T” ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”grin” style=”border:0;” />
most pc users just dont realize what apple has to offer, they are not all evil, or idiots, or whatever. but the ones that do know………are evil idiots- joke –
I agree with Hywel and MCCFR.
Sputniks trolling – as repetitive as it truly is – is far more amusing thAn the invective that we endure from the likes of Troll Jay or Troll Ron.
Sputnik, your post is so lame it really isn’t worth a rebuttal. But I am a glutton for punishment…
If the capitalism existed in an *ideal* environment then the product that was the best compromise between price and performance would success – not necessarily the “best” product as you state. But the world isn’t ideal and there are numerous instances of subpar technologies or technologies succeeding in the marketplace in the face of a superior alternative. That’s called “marketing.”
To take the analogy further, in an ideal world a PC might approach the Mac in terms of elegance and overall value. But that would require the elimination of tens of thousands of viruses, worms and trojans as well as most Microsoft products.
Sorry for the typos… “would succeed”, “technologies or products”, etc. It was a slow news day and I just had to get my forum fix.
Sputnik, I prefer a dancing Steve Jobs to a dancing Ballmer.
I could care less what is announced on Tuesday, I have
everything I want already. If something does get announced
it will be great and I will upgrade when I see fit.
Why do you spend so much time on MDN?
Seriously, why?
Sputnik is just lame. Not interesting, not creative, and not amusing.
BTW, where’s ron?
You people just infuriate me like crazy. I have a dual-2.0 GHz Mac sitting next to the Dell PC on my desk and everything I can do with the Mac I can also do with the PC.
Makes me think about chucking the Mac!!
Dell PCs are just so cool!
Thanks George, that’s a very good laugh!!
Hey SPUTNIK, I have mountain bike (Dell PC) sitting next to my GSX-R 1000 (Dual 2GHz G5). They can both take me to town or across country, it’s just that one is a more pleasurable experience, does it a lot faster and takes less effort. You seem to have an inferiority complex. If Dells are so good, why do you have a Mac? Oh that’s right, you need something to use while waiting for the next security patch from good ol’ Bill. Enjoy your Kool-Aid.
“You have to remember that many of those here are American, and have had irony bypass operations.”
MCCFR, I’m American and it’s plain to see that Sputnik is not only trolling, he’s a Mac user in wolf’s clothing. C’mon, not all of us are as monosynaptic as GWB.
