Apple sold over 500,000 iPods in last 6 weeks; retail store sales to hit $2 billion in 2005

“Apple’s retail stores are expected to reach over $1 billion in revenue this year and $2 billion next year, according to prepared statements that were presented to Apple Retail employees during the company’s quarterly retail store meeting on Sunday,” Kasper Jade reports for AppleInsider.

“Additionally, since the introduction of iTunes 4.5 in April, the company has reportedly sold more than 500,000 iPods to both Mac and PC users,” Jade reports.

  1. I met a windozer the other day who had an iRiver. First time I ever played with one. I showed him my iPod and you could see the lust in his eyes as he played with the interface. Even before he handed it to me he said the interface was clunky and man was it ever – it had little pictures of folders on it for gods sake. I almost felt sorry for the guy.

We had a bit of a discussion about why he prefers windows. He said because of comfort (he is used to windows), software (games), and price (he makes his own computers so can really get down there in price). He tried to say because of plug and play and I nailed him on it since Apple innovated that in the first place. I also mentioned USB, Firewire, elimination of floppies, and wi-fi and how Apple pioneered all of them. He also mentioned getting a couple of viruses and the headache he had dealing with them but was still adamant on prefering windows. I guess if he is satisfied being able to keep a few more pieces of paper in his pocket and running with the pack of “good enoughers”, always being one step behind the truly exciting cutting edge of innovation, working on a virus/spyware/adware ridden machine with swiss cheese security that is a chore rather than a joy to use, then that is his choice.

    OK, rant ended.

The only argument I can ever feel is justified for using windows is the one by hardcore gamers. I wish they would come out with the equivalent of the iPod in a few computer games that were Mac first. They could port to Windows in a 1/2 year or year later but always have the newest version be Mac First. Of course because of the economics involved this is probably the purest fantasy.

I have had a few of these similar conversations myself with the PC users in Web design and e-commerce and digital media at school. My end response is usually that use what ever you are fastest on.

In Weta Digal (LOTR) their 3D media and digital arists use both Linux, high end SGI work stations and Apple G5s. It all comes down to what they’re used to and what they’re fastest on for pumping out the work.

  4. I am a recent switcher, and feel for people who think Windows is better (’cause it’s not.) but the one thing I miss are the sher volume of games. and for a gamer, well I’m sorry, but Windows is where it’s at. Unless Half-Life 2 and Far Cry appear on the Mac, then I’ll say that the Mac is wehre it’s at! ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”smile” style=”border:0;” />

Translation: Not until HL2 and Far Cry appear on the Mac will I say the Mac is where it’s at.

  6. The problem with PC games vs Concole games is that PC games are built for whatever the newest hardware can handle, making your machine obsolete in a year. Console games are built around the Consoles specs for like 3 or 4 years, making it a much better gaming value and it dont get viruses like Winblows. I do say I like the mouse and keyboard better than a gamepad for 1st person stuff, thats why Im hoping the Phantom does what its suppose to, play PC games w/ mouse and keyboard on a console, either that or we see some faster game porting for mac. Aspyr is doing a great job so far, and the bigger they get, the better for Mac gaming. I wish they would have struck a deal for DOOM 3 though, the G5 would be perfect machine to run that bad boy!

  7. “by the way.. gamers play console games..”
I consider myself a gamer, I play PC games more than I play console games. Hooked on CS, ET, TFC, Far Cry. My consoles are next to the TV gathering dust. Many people my age moved from a C64 (not a dedicated console) to an Amiga or AtariST (also not dedicated consoles) to a “modern” PC, with some consoles added to the mix.

Oh, I’ll make shure 2 write the goodest english nekst time, m’kay? bloody hell, get a life, why do people always pick on the non-native speaker?
