“Apple Computer has included in a service manual photos of a yet-to-be released Power Mac, suggesting the computer maker has been working on an updated version of its high-end desktop,” Ina Fried reports for CNET News. “The photos, which appear to show a heat sink covering dual G5 processors as well as a new memory configuration, were included in a manual that was sent out last month. News of the slip-up as well as photos from the manual were published this week on enthusiast site AppleInsider.”
“Adding to speculation that the launch of a new machine may be sooner rather than later, wait times for the latest Power Macs have recently climbed to seven to 10 business days on the online Apple store. The estimated shipping dates are frequently extended when a product revision is imminent… There is also speculation that Apple could be getting ready to revamp its flat-panel iMac line in the coming weeks,” Fried reports.
“When Apple CEO Steve Jobs introduced the first Power Mac G5s last June, he said that they would be available at speeds up to 3GHz within 12 months’ time. IBM executives on last month’s conference call refused to say whether the chipmaker would be in a position to allow Apple to meet that goal,” Fried reports.

Steve said by the end of the summer (which would be Sept. ’05), not within 12 months of last year’s WWDC. But then again, when did getting their facts straight ever get in the way of CNET reporting a story? They’re the kings of FUD.

OK how many people have cable?? Please tell me someone saw the ad on TBS super station with the new headless imacs!! I think it was a mistake that the ad was realeased it aired sometime around 3pm eastern time!! and it hasn’t been shown since then!! can anyone esle account for seeing this ad. I’m not making this up! please someone out there tell me you were watching tv right @ that time.

“A” starts the rumor, “B” repeats it, “C” reads A&B & reports it as news, “A” reads B & C then says `see we were right�….

At that point in the presentation the screens splits between Steve and a graphic saying “+50% within 12 months”.
Now, Steve can blame this on his speechwriters like Kerry does, produce the promised unit, or admit missing the deadline. No biggee, it’s all chest thumping anyway.
The funny thing is the way rob, donnie, and others need to rewrite history to feel good about their mac ownership. According to them, I bet, the 14 month year is a valid idea, so that the millionth itune sale will still be on schedule.
