  1. I’ve already banished all MS software from my Mac. I also don’t surf to their site, and I don’t watch their channel on cable either. It’s a matter of principle. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”smile” style=”border:0;” />

    Hi

It is not going very well. I was on holiday and I am more stressed now than I was before. I dont watch news anymore because there are only negative news coming from USA. I dont follow Mac sites so much anymore because there is wrong Mac news all the time. MDN + Mac Observer dances with Thurrott/Enderle/etc + iPod. They do not need this much publicity.

I am going to invest over 400 000 to the new Macs (G5) after this summer (after WWDC) because those machines are so excellent and do amazing things and because those are so cheap. Still everywhere I look there is only Microshit this and Microshit that. I am tired.

Some one said it dead right:
Watching Microsoft fall will be a tragedy for most, but entertaining for the rest of us. I can wait.

Steve has to come out with new ads that talks about Mac and not about iPod
I also need that iTMS Europe soon. Cant live without music 🙁
(I decided to not to buy CDs any more and wait till Apple releases iTMS Europe… painful decision)

Fortunately there is WWDC that will cheer me up. Unfortunately there is still 4 weeks to go 🙁
Did you make your reservations already?

  3. paul g, I think the un is working on something like that, due to be ready in 2012-2015.

Don’t worry Finn, be happy. Seriously. And think about that investment before WWDC, unless you are a buy the top sort of guy like Arygaetu, or unless you think the conference will tank aapl. Over here, it is buy low, sell high, not necessarily in that order. Perhaps it is different in Finland.

BTW finn, we have noticed a connection between the coming of cocktail hour in the land of the Northern Sun and your loudest posts. Try some vodka lite.

    Msnbc bites. Newsweek with electrons.

  4. I think it’s crap how almost all the local stations stream in Windows Media Player and it refuses to work on Safari or any Gecko browser. What I do like is that the very small NewsLink Indiana puts videos up on their site as QuickTime files (not streamed) – I know it’s college-run (with a few professionals), but it’s still great that they make it in QuickTime, a universal format that isn’t bitchy like Real.

  5. News conglomerates suck big donkey balls. They try to tell us what to think, what to buy, how to act. The majority would do well to find other news sources or force news stations to their wills through massive organized boycotts.

I am not talking about AAPL. I am talking about computer and software investment. Actual machines. I want to know what new computers Apple will show in WWDC. It is not a good idea to buy machines few weeks before WWDC.

I have bought most of my AAPL stock when it was $13. I am perfectly happy with that.

Vodka lite stinks. It is like American Budweiser. That is one drop of shit in 500 gallons of water.

  7. I’d drink Budweiser over Coors Lite anyday. That stuff tastes like Death himself hurled his lunch into a vat of piss and then passed out in it. Rocky Mountain spring water, my ass.

  8. Back on topic:
This is the same as in Australia with ninemsn(another MSFT site). 2 years ago everything worked with a Mac now all video & forums are locked to everything but Windows & explorer. They have changed the codecs in WMP slightly so even WMP 9 for Mac doesn’t work. Got WMP9 (Mac) & it says to upgrade “I have an old version” even when I’ve got Safari pretending to be Explorer 6 (windows).
Just typical of Gates lock-in with Windows.

  9. MSNBC’s Week in Pictures is Mac compatible. But then, a lot of their journalists are Mac users. At first it wasn’t compatible with Macs, but Safari can get into the Week In Pictures no problem now.

    Go figure.

Didn’t Microsoft just pay Opera $12.8 million over such issues?

  10. I liked the comment, MSNBC bites, I go too Foxnews! Both mouthpieces for the Conservative agenda. Everyone loves Jesus, but it was just a little harmless hazing of the Iraqi prisoners. Hypocritical media outlets for hypocrites. WHy would any decent earning Mac owner use WMP or visit such low brow, sensationalist news sites? Bill O’reilly and Rush Limbaugh have to have somewhere to go and play with themselves. They count on redneck revenue to keep them on the air!! Leave them be. HaHa!!!!

  11. Yahoo Music’s section of music videos “largest selection of music videos online” says you need Netscape version 4.7 if you use a Mac to view the media (for Mac OS 9 only). I tried many attempts to get it to work on OS 9 compatibility layer to no avail. Seen it on Windows systems and the site is great. Ticks me off that they don’t truly support the Mac with seemingly no intentions in doing so. I don’t understand why they don’t do anything about this.

    Who owns Yahoo?

  12. >MSNBC? Is it that channel that had barbies and Kens pretending to know business? Or is that on of MADtv’s sketches? Either way, I only watch the BBC….
    [Boeing777]

    LOL … well said!

As far as msnbc or ninemsn — I won’t give them any hits. And CNBC is a joke. I do subscribe to BusinessWeek though and will keep on doing so if they don’t step on the toes of Mac users. BBC is great, as is the Australian ABC / SBS. CNN in its present incarnation is dull while FoxNews is tabloid TV.

  13. Jesus Christ you idiots, it’s “MS”NBC, for fuck’s sake. MS as in Microsoft. As a co-owner of the channel, they have every damn right to block competing technologies if they wish. If it was MacNBC and Apple chose to block IE, you’d all be playing slap-ass with each other and begging for Jobs to toss a quart of throat yogurt down your gullets.

And BTW, I own two Macs, so shut the fuck up. I just know reality when I see it.

  14. “anyone else think that the internet needs some sort of regulatory body, enforced by the UN or something? That way their would be a free choice of formats.”

You are kidding, right? Anything as incompetent and corrupt as the UN could not, and should not, be involved.

  15. MS has their hooks in elsewhere, too.

Many “black boxes” are being introduced that have an HTML interface – a mini website-ette that allows one to configure the box to suit by surfing to it with a computer. This is finally replacing serial port interfaces (things sure move fast in the innovative Windoze world!). A couple of examples are from the lighting control industry.

A standard called DALI (Digital Addressable Lighting Interface) allows lighting controls (switches, dimmers, sensors, etc) to “talk” to lighting loads. At least one licencee has developed an HTML interface system which *demands* Windows/IE to set the system up.

Another manufacturer of theatrical/television/architectural dimming and control equipment has very sophisticated control electronics in the dimmer racks. The latest version uses the HTML interface. You guessed it – Windows/IE only.

Both companies are *proud* to call themselves “Microsoft Partners”. Sigh.

BTW, I am unaware of any technical reason that would necessitate using Windows/IE. I am sure that these systems use ActiveX and/or DirectX to effect the lockout of other OS/Browser combos, but there is nothing they are doing that *requires* them. Please note that I am not really qualified to make that judgement, but I do more complicated things on lots of websites than these set-up programs do.

Sigh. Oh yeah. Already said that.

    Mike

  16. “You mean that incompetent and corrupt organization that George is now asking for help from?

Yeah, not a good idea for him to do that, going to make things much worse.

UN is ok for very simple stuff like food deliveries, but not even that if it is remotely dangerous or difficult, or anything that would offend local politics.

It can handle things that involve putting words in black ink on paper, but real life is much more difficult than putting out endless resolutions that have neither the intent or the means to enforce.

Don’t know why he would ask for help from them.

  17. Gee, yet another thread that degenerates into political debate. I don’t know why I keep reading this or why I am so tempted to make it worse. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”smile” style=”border:0;” />

UN as it is now is pretty useless. All the ideals that went into it during the founding are gone. It is not much better than the League of Nations. UN is way too politically charged and biased down to its organizations and councils. Look at how the UN handled failed states or rogue nations. I just read a book called “The Natashas” which has stories how UN officers failed to act to prevent women from being abducted and force into sex slavery. Worse yet, they are part of the sex slavery rings. How can you really expect the UN to raise the ideals high when the dictatorial governments are put on the same level as the freely elected governments? How can you expect the UN to force changes for the good of the people when soverignty trumps everything else?

IMHO, UN should be disbanded and a new world organization needs to be founded. Take the lessons from the LoN and the UN failures. Maybe each nations should yield a bit of sovereignty to the UN, though I can’t see the “patriotic” people would like it. I have no idea how it should be formulated, but somebody smarter than me should have some idea. Look at the EU. Somehow, its members are willing to yield a bit of their power to the EU.
