Apple iTunes Music Store changing the way music is marketed

“iTunes is changing the way music is marketed. Consumers can now find online remixes of popular songs, live performances, singles released in-between CD cycles to keep an artist fresh in fans’ minds. You’ll be out of luck scouring the record bins for an ‘Ike & Tina Turner’ disc, but you’ll be have no trouble downloading such classics as “Proud Mary’ on iTunes,” Dawn C. Chmielewski writes for Knight Ridder News.

“In fact, only one-third of the songs sold on iTunes are Top 20 hits. Larry Kenswil, president of Universal Music’s eLabs, said his label would soon begin experimenting with world music

  1. DARKNITE;
    allofmp3.com sells BEATLES music legally? and you can get all of their songs for around 10 bucks? I just went to the site and it’s in a language I don’t understand..
    If it’s not sold legally, then I’m not the target audience because I make a large percentage of -my- income from royalties from my photographs.. Just the way that Sir Paul McCartney makes his dough. So I don’t ‘share’. If people ‘shared’ my photos, it takes meat off my table.
    So I guess if your argument to the BEATLES is get online, or suffer because people want the convenience of online music searches and downloads, then I think you do have a point.. And a very good one.

  2. hey “FINLAND”!!

    Another good point!!

    So, whatever the reasons (and there are MANY), I think that smart people agree that setting up ITMS around the world is much harder than making cheese sandwiches.

    It irks me when people DEMANDING ITMS begon wearing the cloak of the victim.

    You can bet that it will get straightened out eventually.

    And you can ALSO bet that a vocal minority will begin railing against APPLE for dominating the music scene in Lithuania. Apple will be accused of being the McDonalds of the music scene, crushing local talent, cramming mediocre music down the throats of impressionable youth. Fouling the air, poisoning the water, ruining our chances of heaven, and we’ll be having FUN doing IT!!

  3. Ah, shut up. I like a good whinge at Apple.

    I want iTMS England, Wales & Northern Ireland NOW. If we cut out the Scottish music, Apple can get it set up quicker. Nobody wants to listen to Big Country anymore anyway…

  4. “and that is a year ago…..there might be fewer now in the US because of RIAA actions, maybe more……….” – Joe McConnel

    I don’t remember where I read it, but I read an article that said illegal downloads didn’t decline as much since new downloaders replaced those who were scared by RIAA.

    Hey, what’s that supposed to mean? ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”smile” style=”border:0;” />
    Seriously, though, if Scottish music is like what they have in Braveheart, it’s not that bad at all.
