    I’ve noticed. Thank you!

As a Mac user myself, I’m usually at odds with fellow Mac users. Boy do things get inflated! It’s nice to see you on board, being as reasonable and fair a person can be by telling it like it is. Mac users hate that type of person the most. Your type is the most difficult to debate!

    My take:

Apple squeezes more out of its customers than PC manufacturers do (at POP and over time) and does so by selling slower hardware but with bigger sizzle. Sizzle is anything other than sheer speed (non-G5 systems).

  3. We could go around in circles for a long time. In all things except processor speed, the eMac is equal to or better than the Dell. People usually don’t max out their processor cycles anyway, so beyond a certain speed, for everyday use, it doesn’t matter if the processor is 400MHZ or 4GHz. A person can only type so fast, a web-page can only load so fast, a person can only think so fast. The limitations are usually the user or another bottleneck, like the speed of the internet connection. For some processor intensive tasks, like ripping CDs, it’s likely that the Dell will be faster. But it doesn’t really matter. Does it really matter that CD was ripped at 12x instead of 10x ? It’s something that’ll happen in the background while you’re doing something else.

The machine is secondary to the software, and I firmly believe that OS-X is simply nicer to use than Windows. It looks nicer (very important) and tends not to get in the way.

That’s no to say that Apple shouldn’t try to catch up in terms of hardware. Not because people need faster processors necessarily, but because that’s where the value is being perceived. At some point, if Apple persist with the G4, and the G4 continues to lag behind, then the software on the windows side that exploits the hardware will start to become compelling for Mac users (and if it doesn’t, it should, and brand loyalty has gone too far).

  4. Actually if you think about it with the educational discount you can get the superdrive model for $899. It comes with an 8x superdrive. That’s amazing. For a complete desktop package. Show me were they have that on the PC side.

  5. Jack A : Nice!

I particularly liked “Office XP Error Reporting May Send Sensitive Documents to Microsoft”! Sounds like built in industrial espionage. That wouldn’t have anything to do with exploiting their monopoly would it ?
