RUMOR: Revised PowerBooks due in ‘the next week or two’

“Although the expected PowerBook G4 speed bumps did not get announced last week a reliable PowerPage source has informed me that the speed bumped PowerBook G4s (note: they are not going to be G5s) should be announced within the next week or two – give or take a few days,” Jason O’Grady reports for O’Grady’s PowerPage.

RUMOR: Apple to release new PowerBook G4s this week – March 29, 2004

  1. If they keep predicting new Macs every week, eventually they’ll end up being right. Even a broken clock is right twice a day, which is more than I can say for these rumor sites the last 6 months…

  2. Cobra:

Unless it’s a digital clock with a 24 hr display!

    Just being legally dogmatic ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”wink” style=”border:0;” />

  3. Cool, A Withnail quote. “There must and shall be aspirin” and “I have some extremely distressing news, we’ve run out of wine” are the ones I use the most.

  4. Man, I am bummed. I really want to upgrade my powerbook but don’ t want to be stuck on a G4 for the next couple of years. BUT I also will find it really hard to wait til the end of this year. Ohhh well. For once tho I am hoping the rumors are wrong and G5 powerbooks will be available by Summer Fall at the latest.

  5. if you’re looking to get a powerbook (iBook is different) I don’t see why ANYONE would get one of the new G4 laptops…unless they were really cheap, but then it would be an iBook, huh?

  6. I have to say I have been setting my sights on a G5 laptop. Working on G4 desktops I just find there isn’t enough ooomph (certainly with 10.2) to give much hope of the longevity I need in them for my graphics work and the power books would be worse. On the other hand the G5s are monsters to have to find space for. If ever there was a damn big gap just begging for a cube like mac to fill its now. A G5 powerbook is the only alternative but now looks as far off as ever. I am getting extremely frustrated, the right machine just isnt out there at the moment. and who knows if and when it will be. I know the first G5’s were relatively rushed out to keep in the game but I really had hoped that by now the real potential of the chip family would have been opening up a bit more.

  7. If you really want a G5 Powerbook then everybody chip in to help me buy the latest G4 PB. I guaranty if I buy a G4 PB some really great machine will come out within a month or two to replace it and make it totally obsolete.

  8. Unless you to write DVD’s, why would you get a Powerbook instead of a G4 iBook? Certainly there’s no other reason to get a 12″ Powerbook, unless you are a pretentious twat that wants people to know you spent the extra money.
