RUMOR: Apple PowerBook G5 to be announced in June, to ship July/August

“One major bone of contention among the usual suspects is whether we will see a Powerbook G5 or an iMac G5 first,” MacOS Rumors reports. “The issue has not be settled, not in any sort of iron-clad manner, but several of our oldest sources have recently chimed in on the side of PBG5-first, so for the time being, we are leaning in that direction strongly. Most sources are pointing at a WWDC introduction in June for the PBG5, with product actually shipping in late July and early August. On the PowerMac front, despite a handful of single-sourced reports in recent days that hint at an update announcement in a matter of days, we continue to face a lot of conflicting information in the search for clear answers.”

  1. The G5 doesn’t matter. Didn’t you hear that Intel sez that MhZ doesn’t matter? That means that I can go back to my original Mac 512 and will be fine.

  2. YESSSSSSS! This is what I want to hear. I have had my fingers crossed for a Summer introduction but actually felt it more likely in Fall or by the end of the year because of technical difficulties involved. Well, I guess that may be right but I sure as heck hope that this rumor is right and I am wrong.

Now if I can just hold on long enough after the initial introduction to get the inevitable upgrades that have been seen in the near past coming out within a few months of the initial intro. Don’t know if I will be able to hold out………. I want, I need, I crave, I lust for a new power book ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”grin” style=”border:0;” />

  3. I agree that MOSR has a reputation for wildly inaccurate reporting, and I’m being charitable, but to their credit, they appear to have become somewhat more conservative of late. When it comes to speculation about new Apple products, as opposed to upgrades, I’ll believe it when it’s shipping. Maybe what’s needed is a meta-site that reviews rumor sites and rates their reliability.

  4. This was the same sort of junk that came with the introduction of the PowerBook G4. When I bought my Pismo in February 2000 everyone was expecting the PowerBook G4 to be announced instead. The PowerBook G4 wasn’t announced until a year later. People are way too optomistic, although I don’t blame them in the least, but this is a G5 adn new cooling technology. It’s gonna be January 2005, my BS prediction.

  5. To MCCFR who said in another thread (“Strong demand for iPod…”):
“BTW, I’m taking a note of names and when Apple announces immediate availability of new product in April, there’s going to be some verbal humiliation being meted out.”

REPLY: One down MCCFR…PBG5 to be announced in June for delivery 1-3 or more months later…
I am waiting to see the announcement and “immediate delivery” of the the new desktop G5 in April.
