“The tech industry, which favored Democrats in the 2000 federal elections, is betting more campaign donations on Republicans this year,” Jim Hopkins reports for USA Today. “Bolstered by money from luminaries such as Yahoo CEO Terry Semel, tech has poured 55% of its $8.2 million in contributions into Republican coffers. That’s up from 47% in 2000, says the Center for Responsive Politics, a non-partisan watchdog group. Among top givers, only doctors and other health professionals shifted more to the GOP.”
“Despite the shift, tech remains ‘on the fence’ in its party allegiance, says Larry Noble, the center’s executive director. Still, the trend is noteworthy, he says, because the tech industry is a growing political player whose allegiance is up for grabs over hot issues such as offshoring of jobs. Republicans are viewed as more pro-business on topics of special interest to the tech industry,” Hopkins reports.

I am betting that the tech donations are simply hedging their bets. That’s why the 55%/45% separation. As mentioned, more money will flow later this year and it’ll probably go back & forth. When it’s all said and done, and we have the election, those contributors want to be able to tell the winner that they backed him all along…

Any large corporation is simply going to back whomever they think will scratch their back the most if they win. It’s rarely any reflection on who their employees tend to support more or anything like that. Hell, some even give sizable donations to both parties in the same election year, it’s not all that uncommon. Basically, I wouldn’t put much stock into who is giving money to whom. It’s all monopoly money to these corporations anyway.

I shudder to think what shape this country would be in under the leadership of Gore. Im all for a powerful Military and Iraq will become a better country in the coming years, its good that Saddam is deposed. The whole oil thing sucks, Im concerned about this planet, and we should put our resources into researching clean energy, it should be a part of the new NASA moon program in conjunction with the dept of Energy. How about tax cuts for new/remodeled homes with energy efficient appliances and windows. And how about finishing the conversion of public street lighing to organic LEDs to conserve power and reduce bulb replacement.
Ah… but John, the real problem in Florida was the “cleansing” of the voter rolls before the election.

You should give up this myth that Bush doesn’t really run his administration. Washington Post reporter Bob Woodward (no Republican, he) already documented in his book on the Afghanistan war (I believe it was called “Bush at War”) how Bush personally makes all the key decisions and guides senior officials.

Macs are bipartisan–Clinton used one, Bush 43 uses one–don’t know that this is the place to discuss politics. Why tear the Mac community apart, let the peecee weenies tear themselves apart arguing politics.
