Forbes: Apple’s iTunes vs. Roxio’s Napster

“From all the media attention being paid to the music download business, you might think that everybody’s downloading legal music. But you’d be wrong,” Arik Hesseldahl writes for Forbes.com. “The number of people legally downloading music amounts to a paltry 2.4 million, according to Jupiter Research analyst Michael Gartenberg, though he reckons that figure may grow as large as 28 million by 2008.”

“Although the battle shaping up between the two leaders in the music download market looks rather lopsided, Gartenberg says it’s still too early to declare a winner. Apple Computer clearly has the lead at the moment, while Roxio’s Napster 2.0 is running a distant second,” Hesseldahl writes.
