Apple has informed .Mac members of a new offer:
“We’re making filmmaking even easier with this timely digital camcorder discount for .Mac members, now through March 31, 2004 only at the Apple Retail Stores. You’ll need to present a printout of this .Mac page to get the 10 percent discount on any digital camcorder in stock, including the latest models from Canon, Sony and JVC.”

Not that I need a new Camcorder, but as a .Mac subscriber in Canada this is useless to me—-there are no Applestores in Canada. Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary & Montreal (among other cities) could certainly use one! Neither do we have access to the online iTunes Music Store. We can browse but not purchase. The potential for expanded sales in the Canadian market is huge but Apple Canada seems so inept! I wonder if we will be offered an appropriate discount on our annual .Mac fee?

I just bought a sony trv33, which sony sells for $799, best buy sells for $699, I just got mine for $548.

I think the fault with Apple not having the iTMS in Canada lies largely on SOCAN and the Canadian music publishers. Even though iTMS is turning out to be one of the saviors of the American music industry, it seems to be taking longer to convince other countries to jump on board. I’m sure it will happen soon…
Buying a Camcorder at the Apple Store for 10% less than full retail seems silly to me when you can buy camcorders at many places for 20-25% less than retail. One unfortunate aspect of the Apple Stores is everything is full retail price – I rarely buy anything there unless I have no option. For me the Apple Store is for buying Apple computers and accessories – not 3rd party hardware and software.
