Howard Dean campaign to use Apple “Switch” ad format in Wisconsin primary

The Howard Dean campaign is asking visitors to the Howard Dean website to vote for their favorite of three ads that are based upon the format of Apple’s old “Switch” television ads.

The ads were independently created, directed, and produced by grassroots Dean supporters.

The ads can be viewed online with QuickTime, RealPlayer, or Windows Media here.

  1. That’s about as original as the Dems can get, I guess. Endlessly promoting class warfare and lying about GW’s record is supposed to get them elected? I think I’ll stick with the experienced man already in the Oval Office. I trust him the most.

Why the long face, Kerry? <smirk>

  2. Howard’s campaign is running in the wrong direction. Forget the “switch” ads. Just start advertising Bush’s record of lying and coverups, followed by a clip of him talking about “restoring honor to the White House”. Ha!

  3. Bleah! The background should be RED that best represents his bloody personality! YYYYAAAARRRGGGHHH!!!

That’ll work with that scream of his.

His personality was his fate. “L” is on my forehead for him.

  4. It seems that Dr. Dean still generates the most interest, and the most fear and loathing, from gopper chimp_junta fans.

He still generates headlines that, by lexus-nexus standards, are about 3 or 4 to one greater than bush_lite Kerry.

I think you guys should still be scared. When I stop seeing all the right wing-nut fish-wrappers stop talking about Dr. Dean and begin to focus on the ‘front runner,’ I will believe Dean’s candidacy is really over.

Until then, wing-nuts keep looking over your shoulders….

  5. As a Vermonter, I was originally turned off by Howard’s newly found over enthusiasm he displayed on the campaign trail. Dean was Governor here for 8 years, and Lietentant Gov. for another 6 years before that and NEVER once did I see him raise his voice above a monotone whisper.

I think his Screaming Rant in Iowa really killed it for him, which is sad, because I think he was on the right track for being a ‘better’ president.
I’m a Republi-independant and I didn’t vote for Bush in ’00 and it looks like I will end up voting for him in ’04, because Kerry, is so very….. (like that skin creme ad) … status quo.

  6. Try to stay current Dicky, the internet fish wraps kissed him off a week ago, and it is just as well. The doctor in the White House would have made the peanut farmer look like an effective statesman.

  7. Class warfare? Oh sorry…we really should keep quiet while Bush and his cronies get richer and richer while hard working people lose their jobs.
And we *really* shouldn’t mention going to war under false pretenses any more than we should complain about Bush blaming others for “bad intelligence.”
We really shouldn’t quote Truman, who said, “the buck stops here,” because
Truman was a democrat, and a president who used awesome force only when
    absolutely necessary… <smirk-double-smirk>

  8. The whole Primary election system/method SUCKS!! It should be on the same day for ALL states/territories, and the results not be released until the following day. I think it is total crap that the media use the opinions of Iowans and New Hampshirites[?] as the basis of the national attitude. It severely intimidates and influences too many people. In addition, only the wealthy contenders will have the finances to weather it all the way through this obnoxiously long process. This must be one of the the MOST UNFAIR voting systems ever created by humanity!!!

  9. “TruthTeller,

Trust? Don’t make me laugh. After 9/11, the entire nation looked to Bush for leadership, and he cynically betrayed and used that trust to advance his own political agenda; the introduction of the loathsome Patriot Act is an assault on our constitutionally guaranteed freedoms; he has not come clean about the circumstances under which he left the Air National Guard; his refusal to cooperate with the 9/11 commission is an insult to the families of the victims; his misuse of prewar intelligence and the outing of a covert operative by “someone” in his administration has created a dramatic rift between the White House and the intelligence community; the shift in focus from Osama bin Laden to Saddam (1,300 operatives moved from Afghanistan to Iraq) may have seriously undermined the efforts against international terrorism; his cozying up to the hypocritical Saudis on behalf of his oil buddies conveniently ignores the fact that the Saudis are major contributors to numerous radical Islamic groups around the world; he completely frittered away the universal sympathy and support America received after 9/11; he continues to assail our environmental protection legislation; he has turned a gigantic surplus into the largest deficit in US history, which our descendants will have to find a way to pay for; etc, etc ad nauseam. The more he speaks, the more he comes across like a ventriloquist’s dummy for Cheney, Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz. Open your eyes and your mind before you start talking out of your ass. This president has BETRAYED THOSE OF US WHO VOTED FOR HIM.

As to Dr. Dean, I must say that I really have no opinion on his viability. I think however, that a Kerry-Clark ticket might give the Bushies some sleepless nights this year. At this point I’m so disappointed and angry with Bush that I may vote for a Democrat in November.

Apologies to MDN’s readers for the off-topic political rant, and let’s try to keep our focus on our beloved platform.

  10. “while hard working people lose their jobs”
Rich people spend their money . . . It’s not like the money goes into a black hole. One of the biggest problems with any economical argument is that no one really understands the economy (it’s harder to predict than New England weather) and the effects of particular actions (such as lowering taxes) are too hard to trace and are spread out over years.
“And we *really* shouldn’t mention going to war under false pretenses any more than we should complain about Bush blaming others for ‘bad intelligence.'”
yeah, and that damn Congress that overwhelmingly suppoprted him on the same intelligence. Presidents are not as powerful as we sometimes make them out to be in many of the issues they deal in.
If you didn’t want to go to war, nothing could convince you to go, even if there was WMDs. These accusations and replies are all politic arguments in the big popularity contest, which means none of them are sound arguments. So let’s keep it to the real completely “black and white” issues like M$ sucks and Michael Dell must have been a crack baby, (sorry if this offends crack babies). Let’s let GB not stand for George Bush, but for Garage Band.

  11. Yo, enough offtopic about politics. back to the ads…

I wouldn’t be suprised if the dean campaign gets a little letter from apple if he takes this ad series national on tv. This is easily confused with the apple switch ads and as such hurts the apple image. Its not like a parody of the ads, as this would be protected by the 1st ammendment… there is, intent wise, no parady here.

  12. As a 2000 supporter of John McCain who this year is supporting Howard Dean I think that the news media has given the public a very biased view of Dean. The truth is that Dean is bringing in hundreds of thousands of new people into the Democratic party, people that we are going to need if we are to defeat George Bush in November. The truth also is that Dean is not the ultra-liberal wacko that the news media portrays him as but a intelligent, well-meaning middle-of-the-road conservative Democrat (anyone from Vermont would back me up on this).

I think Dean’s balanced-budget, we-can’t-do-it-all so let’s prioritize, little guy over big corporations message would resonate with swing voters in November better than the Kerry I’m-more-liberal-than-Ted Kennedy, I-got-duped-by-Bush-into-voting-for-the-war and took-more-contributions-from-special-interests-than-anyone-else record. Just yesterday I heard a conservative talk show host berating the Democrats for picking the weaker of the two candidates (Kerry over Dean) and using it as an example of how disconnected the Democratic party is from mainstream America.

With respect to the “I have a Scream” speech the news media mis-reported that too. Dean was using a noise-canceling microphone folks. A friend of mine was there and said that the noise from the 3500 supporters in the room was _deafening_. Without yelling nothing would have come out of Dean’s mouth at all, it was *that* loud. For an expose by Diane Sawyer including *apologies to Dean* from execs at ABC, CBS, CNN and Fox News for mis-reporting it check out http://abclocal.go.com/kgo/news/012904_nw_dean_scream_abcnews.html

Just to keep this a little on-topic it’s obvious there are a lot of Mac users that support Dean judging from the number of iBooks and PowerBooks I saw at the local Dean for President office!

  13. Alan,

I also supported John McCain over George Bush, and I’m still at a complete loss as to how this clown came to be seen as the savior of the Republican party. That being said, while I’m a Republican, my first duty is to the US, not any party, and I will vote for the person I feel best able to do the job. At this point I don’t feel that George Bush deserves a second term.

  14. The Dean Campaign steals from an Apple Computer ad. How original. If you want to be my president, try something someone else has not. Cute ads, but a sad, sad ripoff. I’m deeply disappointed. If this is the type of thing Dean would do as president (borrow ideas from other people), then I hope he does not win the nomination of the Democratic Party. I want a leader, not a follower.
