Apple has released Bluetooth Software 1.5 which offers better support for Bluetooth headsets and printers (6.1MB). You will have to restart your Mac after installing this update.
Headsets must support the Bluetooth headset profile and printers must support the Bluetooth HCRP profile. In order to configure and use a Bluetooth headset, the Bluetooth module must have the latest Bluetooth firmware from the Bluetooth Firmware Updater application version 1.0.2 or later (http://www.info.apple.com/usen/bluetooth/).
For information about using Bluetooth 1.5 or about making your Macintosh Bluetooth-enabled, visit the Apple website at http://www.apple.com/bluetooth/
Awesome. I wonder what I can do with my Bluetooth headset and Mac. Can I use it as an audio input/output for iChat AV or something? We shall soon find out…
Hopefully, a sign that the Mac may soon become a ‘soft’ phone ?
wonder if i can use my bluetooth phone to talk to my sister abroad using ichat… FOR FREE ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”grin” style=”border:0;” />
Holy carp it works!!! I can select the headset as an audio input and/or output device! It seems to work with any application, right now I’m listening to iTunes through it, which is rather pointless since its crappy mono sound. It should work in iChat AV as well, so now I can make internet voice or video calls and not be tethered to my computer. Awesome work Apple!
Upon further tinkering I have discovered a few things
The volume control on the headset will control the system volume! However it only ranges from 20% volume to 73% volume for some reason, although you can force it higher or lower on the actual computer.
Actually thats about all I’ve discovered so far.
BTW I’m using a PowerBook G4 17″ with an Ericsson HBH-15 headset
Wouldn’t it be great to have a Bluetooth iPod? No more cord dangling and getting tangled.
Hmm. My little Bluetooth pointy-B no longer appears in the menu bar. Going to system prefs and trying to unclick the tickbox doesn’t help. Anyone else having this problem or is it just me?
I’ve always had problems with the Bluetooth menu, it seems to randomly disappear until I go into the Sys Prefs and uncheck, check, uncheck, restart System Prefs, and check the box again.
Ah, thanks Tom. It looks like I’ve just been lucky up to now, but my PowerBook is now returning to default behaviour ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”grin” style=”border:0;” />
