Agence France Presse erroneously calls Apple iPod, iPod mini ‘not compatible with Microsoft Windows’

“In addition to being able to choose from the growing number of online music stores, music-lovers will also be spoilt in choice for mobile jukeboxes. Apple’s iPod and its mini little brother, which are not compatible with Microsoft Windows, are being joined by a host of ‘lookalike’ gadgets,” Agence France Presse reports.

  1. The French have had two successful military leaders (DeGaulle wasn’t one of them). Napoleon, who wasn’t technically French, was exiled. Joan of Arc was burned at the stake. Being part French-Canadian, I was often called a gorf (a backwards frog).

  2. This is just a typical case of ignorant “tech” writers not knowing what they’re writing about. If these guys worked for me I’d have fired them long ago. It’s not like the iPods some obscure little niche player that could easily lead to the odd mistake. Crikey, EVERYONE’s been talking about it for months now. So either this guy’s in the wrong job or it was a deliberate attempt to spread misinformation.

Btw, I hope the jokes about the French are made in good humour. I’ve been seeing a few too many racist slurs coming mainly from the US recently to be able to tell how much of it is just good banta and how much is a product of misguided nationalism.
    Maybe a good dose of smilies would be a good idea ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”wink” style=”border:0;” />

  3. Racism has been hitting a high lately. Some dumb bubba NASCAR driver complained that Toyota has a new entry in their truck competition by saying “Remember that they bombed Pearl Harbor.” NASCAR spokesmen, when asked about it, dismissed it as “That’s just Jimmy.” What a bunch of ignorant bubbas.

Bush has attempted to make it chic to criticize the French for thinking for themselves and not following along in his step. I think that’s part of where the French slams are coming from.

  4. Racism re Pearl Harbor? Hmmmmmmm…. The Mitsubishi company designed and built a dandy little airplane called the MU-2 during the 70’s and 80’s. For a long time, the adverts in Flying magazine showed a picture of the MU-2 banking in towards an island airport, with the words of the ad stating…

“The MU-2 – another great airplane from the friendly folks who brought you the Zero.” The ad then went on to say how the Zero was the scourge of the skys during the early days of WW2 – and how the same engineers and design team created the MU-2.

Racism? Nah… just the truth… The Japanese Imperial Armed Forces bombed Pearl Harbor – but it wasn’t anything compared with the slaughter of civilians at Nanking or a hundred other places.

Heck… you want racism? Japanese citizens of Korean heritage are still not allowed to vote in Japan. Check it out!

  5. its the truth that everything japanese is responsible for pearl harbor? mistubishi made a plane the japanese armed forces used and so toyota is the enemy?

well that’s racism for ya. and yeah, so is the korean thing if that’s true.

  6. And speaking of the French and their duplicity… Let’s not forget that during the Falkland War in 1982 – the French technicians loaded the French Exocet missles onto French supplied Argentinian Super Entendard fighters to kill British boys… this a mere 37 years after Britain and it’s allies handed France back to the French for the second time in the 20th Century.

Oh Yeah… Those French Exocet missles that killed so many British boys?… The French supplied them to the Argentinians on Credit.

And that just about sums up the French. Can’t trust ’em…. no honor, no historical memory.

  7. Racism against the French??? Since most Americans and most French are of European heritage, racism would be the wrong word. The word you are looking for is xenophobia, fear of foreigners. But, since most Americans have never heard of “xenophobia,” racism will have to do.

As for Pearl Harbor, the Japanese did it in 1941, and have to live with it, just as we bailed out the French twice in the 20th century, a fact we have to live with – even if they chose to forget it.

  8. The Toyota Tundra, which is what that racing truck is based upon, is made in Indiana by American workers. As a Canadian, I didn’t let that fact stop me, I bought one anyway. In my books it is the finest pickup made. Of course, I haven’t tested the Nissan Titan yet.

  9. Re: Bill & Xenophobia

I agree. Wrong terminology, but xenophobia is wrong as well being as most Americans don’t fear or mistrust foreigners in general. The word you’re looking for (if how it’s portrayed is true–I know quite a few people who have beef with the French in general, but are happy to exclude “exceptions”) is bigotry:

In an extended sense, a person who is intolerant of opinions which conflict with his own, as in politics or morals; one obstinately and blindly devoted to his own church, party, belief, or opinion.

As an aside, I don’t think most people who dislike the French currently do so for irrational reasons. They disagree strongly with the French’s idea of justice/threat and find the French’s lack of support for the US. That combined with some of the rather shady things the French have done recently make it at least reasonable to dislike them. I don’t necessarily agree with the degree to which some people take this, but the point is that there IS some justification for the opinion. Alas, this is rather off-topic, isn’t it? ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”hmmm” style=”border:0;” />
