Tech TV presents ‘the making of Pepsi, Apple iTunes ad’ story today

“Sunday marks the launch of the long-promised campaign between Apple and Pepsi to give away 100 million free songs through the iTunes Music Store, Apple’s industry-leading music download service,” Tech TV reports. “One in three bottles wins, and starting Super Bowl Sunday you can start looking for winning bottle caps on specially marked 20-ounce Pepsi and Sierra Mist drinks. You’ll also find game pieces under soda fountain cups at 7-Eleven stores.”

“The soda/song-giveaway partnership marks a first for Apple, but there’s yet another first at work here. In its promo, Pepsi is featuring teenage music fans who were busted by the recording industry for downloading songs illegally,” Tech TV reports. “The ad centers on Annie Leith, the 14-year-old from Staten Island, N.Y., who made headlines in 2003 when she was sued by the RIAA. She reportedly paid a $3,000 settlement to the recording industry and is said to be using the money she makes from her appearance in the ad to help pay for the settlement.”

Tonight Tech TV’s “Tech Live” will have the full story behind the making of the ad. Watch today at 10 a.m., 1 p.m., and 6 p.m. Eastern. More info here.

Tech TV is also asking what you think of the new ad (view it here) on their discussion board here.

  1. These kids are still going to download free of the net, but this time with no legal problems. Apparently they are all moving to Canada.
