Apple is looking to raise awareness of its leadership position in the Wi-Fi arena with a U.K. job listing. From Apple’s site, this job listing for a Hot-Spot Evangelist has appeared which provides clues as to Apple’s plans in this area:
The primary purpose of this role is to raise the profile in the marketplace of AirPort, Apple’s Wireless networking solution. Achieving this by co-ordinating the opening of WiFi Hot Spots in high profile places, which Apple will support.
– Understanding and experience of implementing Microsoft Windows networks. Mac OS X knowledge a bonus, but not required.
– A track record of dealing with people at all levels of business
– Presentable, Intelligent, pro-active and self motivated
– Good interpersonal skills
How many “average Joe’s and Jane’s” today, know that Apple’s Airport broke Wi-Fi wide open and brought wireless to many Apple Mac users long before most Windows users had even heard of Wi-Fi?
