Access ‘secret’ Mac OS X Dock features with xDock update; Panther compatible

xDock is a utility that gives you access to some “secret” features of the Dock in Mac OS X. You can also use it to change the settings that you can change as well in the Dock preferences pane in the System Preferences. xDock version 2 is rebuilt from scratch and comes with a new inteface that it easy to navigate.

New to version 2.1 is the ability to change the Dock Poof sound that appears when you remove a item from the Dock and it’s now compatible with Mac OS 10.3. xDock also allows you to download Dock Poofs directly from the internet that peoples have submitted in our Dock Poofs-selection. Please note that you may find more Dock Poofs in the application that on our Dock Poofs-page as the application updates instantly when new Dock Poofs have been added.

Features include:
– Edit the settings for the Dock that you can edit in the System Preferences
– Change the position of the Dock to “Top”
– Change the minimize using option to “Suck Effect”
– Change the Dock’s “Pinning”
– Enable the “Transparent hidden applications”-option
– Enable the “Show foreground”-option
– Change the Dock poof with ease (including preview)
– Change the Dock poof sound
– Add URLs to the Dock
– Download Dock Poofs from the internet
– Create and open Dock Poof links
– Add Quit to the Finder’s Dock-menu

Requirements: Mac OS 10.2.6 or later and compatible with Mac OS 10.3.

  1. “Add Quit to the Finder’s Dock-menu” seems like the only useful reason for down-loading this prog. The dock is such a totally anti-Mac piece of shite!

  2. How about an option to set the dock so that it fits all the way from screen edge to screen edge? I can’t stand the way it sits in the middle of the screen while the screen space on both bottom edges is wasted.

Mark: if you mean setting it so that the icons change sizes until it fills the entire screen, just change the icon size to maximum, that should work unless you have a very minimal number of icons in your dock. If you mean that the dock should start at one side and continue toward the other, expanding as it got more icons, (aligned left or right rather than centered) that’s what the “Pinning” refers to.
