Prototype lets you control your Apple iPod with most common remote controls

Scant information is available currently, but prototype information is online stating, “The receiver comes as as a tiny module and is simply plugged into the iPod’s remote connector. It can decode the signals of most common remote controls (like the one you have for your CD player). Of course it can also be used with universal remote controls, too. The remote receiver enables you to control [iPod] functions [such as] Start/Stop, Off (sleepmode), Volume increase/decrease, next/last song, [and] cue forward/reverse.

So, basically, you could control your iPod with common remote controls from across the room. More information, including a sign up to “keep you informed about this product,” presumably as it progresses from prototype to shipping product here. [Attribution: MacNN]
