“Adobe’s flagship product, Photoshop, will abandon Mac OS 9 support in its next major version, sources close to Adobe told MacCentral. While no final date has been set for the release of the next revision of Photoshop, Adobe is expected to introduce the product this fall. ‘It’s a big step for Adobe, but Apple made it clear that the future of the platform was going to be OS X,’ Jupiter Research analyst, Michael Gartenberg, told MacCentral. ‘The cost for developers to maintain two architectural releases is extremely prohibitive.’ When Adobe announced Photoshop for Mac OS X in February 2002, the product was expected to bring creative professionals to Apple’s Mac OS X operating system in large numbers, but there was no need for them to switch to a different OS — Photoshop 7 was compatible with Mac OS 9.1 and Mac OS X,” reports Jim Dalrymple. Good. About time. Time is already past to move to OS X, Classic hangers-on.
Although I share some of your sentiments Feld, Quark was a major reason why a lot of people didn’t move over to OS X. Besides the fact that legacy systems are just SLOW with OS X. Anyone who says otherwise doesn’t know what the heck they’re talking about.
It’s about damn time, OS X is a mature & stable OS. Get over it, I even took Classic off of my Macs a LONG time ago. The stragglers have actually SLOWED application development for OS X by keeping installed base numbers low. There are reportedly 25 Million Macs out there and Apple is talking about 10 Million by the end of the year on OS X. GET ON BOARD OR GET LEFT BEHIND.
That’s just too bad. I hope CS5 has OS9 support!
