“Apple Computer Inc., the maker of Macintosh personal computers, will open its first directly owned store in Japan later this year, the Nikkei English News reported citing unnamed company officials. The company opted to open the shop in Tokyo’s Ginza shopping district instead of the city’s Akihabara region, Japan’s biggest electronics area, in order to attract a broader clientele, the report said.”
“Apple, which has long targeted experienced computer users, is shifting its marketing strategy in a bid to lure ordinary consumers, the report said. The store will open in the autumn, Nikkei said, without elaborating.”
“Apple, the only personal-computer maker that builds its own operating system instead of relying on Microsoft Corp.’s Windows, earlier this month said it lowered the price of its one-piece iMac and eMac personal computers as much as 13 percent to boost sales,” reports Tomomi Sekioka for Bloomberg.
