Once again, another product not adorned with the Apple logo gets torn apart by the MDN vultures. This is truly investigative journalism at its best. Yet another example of Apple fanatics’ “short man’s complex” graces these electronic pages. MDN and its members can’t help but bite at their competitors’ ankles, while screaming their elitist remarks at the top of their lungs. I read this site often and typically I just let it slide, but now I think I’ve had enough. I didn’t want to do this. I ignore the MDN commentaries for this very reason. Oh well, here we go.

I’m a Mac user. I love my Powerbook, but I can understand why others didn’t choose to buy a Mac. Different people prefer different things. Windows is not all viruses and spyware, as you all would like to believe. If you browse the net like an intelligent person you won’t run in to hardly any of those. Anyways, I’m consistently embarrassed by the extreme bias and childishness of this website and its members. You act like this is the first time a computer-based product has crashed. I have a Powerbook and it crashes, albeit less than Windows, but it still does. All of the consoles I’ve owned have crashed some time or another. Conversely, all the people I’ve spoken with who have an Xbox 360 (as in an audible conversation, not internet rumors) love it to death. The odd aspect of this debate is that many of you are talking up the PS3, which is made by a company you all were boycotting because of the DRM issue (another Mac irrelevant news article).

This is the only news source I rate lower than Fox. For goodness sake, what does this article have to do with Apple? I shouldn’t even have to be writing this. If I wanted Xbox news I’d venture to an Xbox site. But I don’t have an Xbox 360 and hardly do any of you. Could you all just stop giving Steve Jobs textual fellatio for one second? A company tries to ship a product for Christmas sales - big deal. Welcome to capitalism! Jobs did the same thing with the iPods and iMacs this season. The console was rushed so there were bugs still in the system. What a surprise! You all talk like the release of Mac OSX never happened.

To all you Mac elitists, stop acting like Steve Jobs is one of your “friends with benefits.” You’re infringing on Laurene’s territory. He’s a businessman out for cash like everyone else. He just happens to be the underdog and therefore must stay innovative all the time to make money. I’m sure if I were reeling in MS dollars I’d do the same thing Gates is doing. Why would he change a product that most people would buy anyways?

Maybe once Apple enters the video game console market they can comment on Microsoft’s aforementioned endeavors, but until then MDN, please stick to Apple related content.

Someone posted a comment on a CNet article something along the lines of 'Now you know why PowerMac G5's are so big. Now you know why there was no PowerBook G5.'

IBM STILL doesn't have a handle on heat issues with Power4 based chips. Micro$oftopoly went cheap with 2 standard PC-type fans and a water-cooled heat sink. Obviously heat management is an issue with these chips as well.

I just heard a news broadcast on the radio this morning that there are "scattered" reports of crashes on the new Xbox console when playing games. Considering the bias the news media has for protecting things Microsoft, it's not hard to conclude that the problem is more widespread than a mere mention on the news.

For Xbox Live, you'll need to create a gamertag associated with a Microsoft Passport [you have one if you have a hotmail, msn or Xbox.com email account] and, of course, a credit card. "You will not be able to disassociate your Passport account from your gamertag, nor your gamertag from your Passport account."

If you or the child for whom you're setting up an account is under 18 (as signified by either the existing Xbox Live account or the Passport account), activation will require two Passport accounts and two valid e-mail addresses (one each for parent and child).

MDN isn't a journalism site. MDN COMPILES stories they believe Apple and Mac fans will enjoy. For fun, they add the "MDN take" which is called an "EDITORIAL"... perhaps you've heard of that in the newspaper? Ever read one of those?

So why is this story here? Because the majority of Apple fans HATE Microsoft. Some of us find it very funny when Gates has egg on his face, like now with this subpar "next generation" game console suffering the same fate as most things Microsoft.

The fact that people believe this site to be a true, traditional news-gathering site (with reporters out in the field, etc.) shows just how dumbed down the Internet has made people. Of course, those posting those comments probablly LIKE Microsoft, so their IQ is questionable at best.

Neither's Microsoft. What's your point? I just find it ironic that Microsoft can get three 3.2GHz cores in a $400 games console, whilst Apple failed to get one 3GHz core in a $3000 workstation. Yet everyone here wants to mock MIcrosoft for a few initial teething problems on their Rev A release. Something which plagues Apple with practically *every* launch of their Rev A products.

You raise a good point. We just like to jump on Microsoft as a joyous pastime. The Xbox 360 actually is very impressive and jam-packed with technology. My iMac G5 is slow, and I, for one, am wating anxiously for the day when OSX has the speed and snap of a Wintel computer without having to have 2 processors inside. Intel should solve that problem. Bottom line is that the Xbox 360 is pretty freaking amazing. I expect it will do pretty well unless it burns down the Smithsonian or something like that.

Game systems are sold at a loss. Xboxes may cost $700 to produce, but manufacturers make it all back in game sales. Computers are sold with a healthy profit margin (regardless of manufacturer)

Luke - most estimates put Microsoft's loss on the XBox 360 at around $130. Some not even that much. So, even if the XBox 360 really costs $600 to make, that's still $2400 less than a Powermac. I don't see your point. Microsoft have achieved way more than Apple did (in terms of putting PowerPC's in a box) for *way* less, and yet everyone here is so anal about Apple they can't see it. Really. This is computer hardware not a religion.

I used to think there r some THINK DIFFERENT guys and that was the reason to come here.But after reading and having a lot of fun with all aggresive and pointless opinions in this site I was nearly believing in all Mac users are plain obssesed idiots. But hey u guys showed me there r some clever ones and open eyes there. So still there is some hopes...

Hi, I just stumbled in here while looking for xbox 360 info on fires (because I work at Toys R Us and have to sell these things). I currently have a PC running Windows XP and I can not wait for the day when I can go out and buy a new MAC.

I'm not ignorant, I'm not a bigot, I don't care who is gay and who is not, though I am anti right wing. I just wanted to say that as a PC/Microsoft user for the last few years I can honestly say these machines are inferior to MAC's.

As for the Xbox, it was always a terrible idea (even with the first one). They are basically trying to sell you a computer to hook up to your tv. I prefer Nintendo or Playstation. Just my two cents. Thanks for reading.
