U.S. President George Bush a confirmed Apple iPod user (images included)
Wednesday, December 22, 2004 - 12:05 AM EDT

In Time Magazine's latest issue, U.S. President George W. Bush is profiled as Time's "Person of the Year" and included among the photographs by Christopher Morris are a couple of President Bush on or near his Trek bike with the caption, "At a Secret Service training facility, Bush bikes and listens to Van Morrision's Brown Eyed Girl on his iPod." Bush also sports what look to us to be Etymotic Research ER-6i Isolator earphones (see our review "Review: Etymotic Research ER-6i Isolator earphones - September 10, 2004, for more information).

Earlier this year, MacDailyNews noticed a line in a piece by Susan Baer for The Baltimore Sun about Vice President Dick Cheney: "His family life, too, has been kept largely under wraps, though in some ways it is remarkably ordinary, right down to the iPod the vice president received from his children for Christmas," Baer wrote.

So, now we know that the top two positions of the U.S. Government's Executive Branch are occupied by Apple iPod users.

A liberal of superior intellect AND biblical expert wrote: wrong answer fuck-wad. Read your bible again, this time without the log in your eye.

********************

You know, I have to admit, it's kind of interesting getting lectured about having a log in my eye by someone who in the previous sentence called me a "f***-wad". I've never come across that convergence of hermeneutical principles.

(And by the way, he already DID bomb Sodom and Gomorrah. My answer was demonstably correct.)

Regardless, I look forward to your next mixture of biblical interpretation and profanity.

I won't be losing any today, Rick. Oh, and,

"In that your best and your brightest ran your recent bid for President,"

Nope, not my best and brightest, nor my choice. And GWB is your brightest? The C average college student?

" and in that they proceeded to woo the American people with such stunts as putting Michael Moore in the VIP section next to Jimmy Carter at the Democratic National Convention; "

Again, out of my hands.

"taking Al Sharpton seriously;"

Ditto

embracing the now-famous Hollywood hate-fest in all its classless and clueless glory as being emblematic of "the heart of America";

I didn't see any embracing going on. Just like minded people who recognized what 4 more years of GWB would result in.

"and making the case that you would be a better protector of these United States because, A) You served 4 months in Vietnam, "

You're conveniently forgeting that he did 2 tours of duty. GWB had what experience?

"and, B) You want U.S. foreign policy to be submitted to the world's approval (that famous "Global Test"),"

Do you have any clue what he actually said? Let me enlighten you. Foreign policy would not be submitted to the world's approval. We WOULD be able to justify why we do things to the world though. He didn't say we'd HAVE to. I'm sure any intelligent person would want actions we take to be justifiable. No matter what kind of spin you try to put on it, you can't justify the deaths of over 1000 American sons, daughters. brothers, sisters, fathers, mothers. Not to mention the 6000 plus who have had life changing injuries and amputations based on what the end result will be.

Dec 22, 04 - 05:25 pm Comment from: G-Spank

ok, Rick...

Conservatives would fuck the poor in order to help the rich make more profits. This is an example of gluttony, and Jesus would abhor it.

Conservatives would rather destroy Mother Nature in favor of profits. I believe Jesus would be a Liberal here too.

Conservatives have blatantly and willingly lied to the people of this great nation in order to wage a war that secures their greedy interests. In doing so, they have shown no respect for the soldiers they have sent to die for these interests, have shown no respect for international law, and have sexually tortured captives. I think Jesus wouldn't like that.

Conservatives have used the issues of abortion and gay marriage to hijack Jesus' followers for their own adgendas. I think that Jesus would say that's not right. The fact is that Liberals aren't "Pro" abortion - they think that it isn't a black and white issue. It's not like liberals go "Yay!" when they hear that a retarded daughter was raped by her father and is going to have an abortion. Gay marriage, who cares? When you boil it down, it doesn't have much to do with the church, it has to do with rights and tax law that favor married couples. If two women love each other, and want to spend the rest of their lives together, they should have these same benefits. What would Jesus think, I dunno.

thats a few. time to make some tea...

and oh yeah - as you like to use this in some hateful way, I will too:

Merry Christmas!

EB wrote, "Example of Jesus being a liberal:

Mary Magdalane was an apostle. But I'm sure you won't believe that because of all the lies your church has told you about the bible.

**********

EB, some questions for you:

1) There are various definitions of "apostle". To which one are you referring?

2) On what verse or group of verses do you base your assertion that she was an apostle?

3) How would Mary Magdelane being an apostle be an example of Jesus as a liberal?

4) In determining whether or not Jesus could be classified as a liberal, are we allowed to look at the entire thrust of EVERYTHING the bible has to say about him, or should we selectively choose this bit and that bit to proof-text our way towards a liberal Jesus?

5) Of all the lies my church has told me about the Bible, suppose you tell me exactly where you gained your clairvoyant insight into what church I have ever had anything to do with?

Thanks.

Merry Christmas!

Oh, and merry flaming ____________mas.

Dec 23, 04 - 11:53 am Comment from: Hordur Helgi Helgason

I started to read this apparently endless thread and, almost as a reflex, stopped again as soon as I saw what was really festering in it.

But then I realized that by averting my eyes from this pestulance, I am condoning it. So I made myself read the whole thing.

This is that time of year when I normally am able to get a little mid-winter break, and enjoy the festival of lights that this nation excels at producing in late December. Some religions have a name for it, others do not. But this has still been that time of year when people smile a little more genuinely to each other, and actually look other people in the eye. We are reminded that we co-exist in this country, this world, and therefore have a need to respect each other. There is no place else to go to. And it simply does not bring you anything but misery, if you spend your relatively short time on this Earth, fretting about the fact that we are not all of the same opinion.

So you can now see how reading this drivel made me sad. Truly sad. I feel like I am witnessing the beginning of the breakdown of this society. The disrespective, hate-filled, spiteful projectiles that almost all of you hurl at each other are so pointless, so far removed from any sense of intelligent discussion, that it borders on depressive. And it dampens ones hopes for the future of this country. You can see that it does not matter who would have won this presidential election, the situation would be the same: Two ever-growing factions of people that have less and less understanding of, and respect for, the human beings that belong to the "other" faction. This leaves the rest of America either disgusted with both of these hateful sects, or disinterested in the apparently failed political system, as a whole. Why do you think that fewer and fewer of our children are participating in the democratic process, even taking into the account the spike in turn-out for this last presidential election? "It's the hate, stupid", to paraphrase a common quote. You can not tell me, earnestly, that this is still a meaningful debate. It has long since lost any relevance. Or meaning. It is nothing but a pityful shouting contest, designed to denigrade, embarrass, and belittle other people, and their beliefs.

I am not going to fall into the trap of telling you to stop, to "see the light", or whatever one should be urging you to do. Because I do not belief you would listen. Nor am I going to let myself be pushed to a cynical disposition by this, declaring myself better than you, and passing judgement on you as being some sort of bad people.

But I refuse to read this vile and just turn quietly to another page. This needed to be said. At least I needed to.

Dec 23, 04 - 02:54 pm Comment from: Rick O'Shay

EB, when you wrote Xmas, I know you think you were being deliberately offensive to those of us who unapologetically call this the Christmas season. However, I believe you'll be disappointed to learn that Xmas is originally derived from the greek word for "Christmas", which is "Xristos", and it goes back for centuries.

From xristos.com, a Christian website:

Xristos is a transliteration of the New Testament Greek word for Christ "criston." The Greek letter Chi 'c' was retained to insure a connection to the roots and original texts, as well as visually represent the centrality of the cross in all. The visual symbol Chi-ro is also employed at various places by Xristos, recalling one of the earliest practices of the Christian community.

So, thank you for wishing me an authentic Merry Christmas.

And Merry Christmas to you too.

Jan 11, 05 - 01:29 am Comment from: coward

I don't understand this meaningless ourpour of rage from the Republicans. Yes, they won, but as far as presidential elections go, barely. The nation is deeply polarized. Each side had their own strengths and weaknesses. Bush may have had weaker actual positions and a much more conservative agenda (duh) and pushed extremely foolish agendas, but Kerry was less charismatic and had a nuanced position ,and so, consequentially lost the election in this day an d age of 24/7 news TV and media monopolies controlled by septuagenarian Australian arch-conserservatives. Also, what's up with people being called fags and commies. I will not get into the part of calling people homosexual, but as for communists, I'd be willing to bet that none of you idiotic right wingers have seen an actual communist in your entire life. Just because you still believe in some antiquidated McCarthyite propaganda, that does not mean there are communists attempting to take over the country. We have one of the strongist capitalistic economies in the world, and that is not going to change anytime soon. So, in conclusion, Bush is misleading this country, weaking the dollar versus the euro over the long term by creating a huge defecit (which is what you conservatives should really be worried if you're afraid of Europe), and leading this country into a war which is increasingly becoming more and more of a quagmire. Just look at the history of the middle east and you will see that this cannot be resolved within our lifetimes.

Jan 11, 05 - 03:10 am Comment from: Purple Polititian Eater

Does anyone even remember what this is about? After fifteen minutes of listening to the same shit nearly fifty times I realize the what a mess this country has become. No matter how many times the Donkeys, or whatever those opposed to The President consider themselves, say it will not do anything besides spur more opposition and resent. The same goes for the Elephants, no matter how many times you say how you will kill all the 'Terrorists' remember our forefathers where nothing more than terrorist leaders rebelling against an unjust rule. You are making no progress, at all. Iraq was and is in a sad state of affairs, and don't forget Saddam Hussein was responsible for the execution and torture of hundreds of thousands of people (394,710 people as well as the nearly 400,000 refugee childred forced to starvation because of his regime). Intervention was necessary although improperly carried out.
With more than eight million Ipods sold it's no wonder why the President owns one, nearly everyone does! Cheny probably talked him into it anyways considering there is no real reason why he would need to appeal to new demographics since he is on his last term.

Jan 11, 05 - 03:28 am Comment from: Surge

This might shock you extreme "ipod loving" liberals out there, but it is a well-known fact that Republicans, much to my disappointment prefer Apple. Rush Limbaugh is quoted saying he prefers his iBook to any PC or laptop. The philosophy is that Apple much like the Republican Party is strict in adaptation, in a way where only compatible programs suit the character traits and mind sets of conservatives. Apple is likewise structured, by creating an operating system, which only runs its own programs. Lets face it, from what we now know about the hippie revolution, it spread love just as fast as PCs spread viruses, some might find the parallel quite interesting.

Rick O' Shay, like most irrational homophobes, is just a hoot to watch.

Rick, save yourself some embarrassment and look up the term 'liberal' before coming back.

Jan 11, 05 - 10:47 pm Comment from: D

For you other neocons who possess the same level of grammar, let me pull out my 'spin to english' dictionary for you:

pro-homosexual - a clever way to state that Rick, obviously, is agasint equal rights.

pro-tax - Somehow Rick is able to imply that taxes are bad. Forgetting things like the fact that Bush had everything to waste every single taxpayer's money more so than any president in recent history. Oh those clever neocons!

pro-abortion - Ah, yes...this one is a classic. Alas, it's a myth. No one is a pro-abortion.

anti-Israel - Another great classic. This one is a tad odd, as a lot of neocons are also against any thing that isn't WASP...making it hard from them to play along with this particular spin tactic.

blame America first - This one is great. It twists the term 'being responsible' and turns it into an assumption of 'tattle telling'. This is a good one. Really.

Sadly, we have way too many Ricks in this country. They question nothing. Would rather be part of the club rather than think on their own.

What is this all about (and it ia definetly wrong for all of the U.S. citizens):
THIS IS HARD TO BELIEVE!

If the immigrant is over 65 they can apply for SSI and Medicaid and get more than my mom gets for Social Security, and she worked from 1944 till 2004, only getting $791 per month because she was born in 1924 and there is a "catch 22".
It is interesting that the federal government provides a single refugee with a monthly allowance of $1,890.00 and each can also obtain an additional $580.00 in social assistance for a total of $2,470.00/month.
This compares very well to a single pensioner who after contributing to the growth and development of America for 40 t o 50 years can only receive a monthly maximum of $1,012.00 in old age pension and Guaranteed Income Supplement.

Maybe our pensioners should apply as refugees!

Consider sending this to all your American friends, so we can all be ticked off and maybe get the refugees cut back to $1, 012.00 and the pensioners up to $2,470.00 and enjoy some of the money we were forced to submit to the Government over the last 40 or 50 or 60 years.

Please forward to every American to expose what our elected politicians have been doing over the past 11 years - to the over-taxed American.

SEND THIS TO EVERY AMERICAN TAXPAYER YOU KNOW
