Rush Limbaugh calls for Apple iCal to Sidekick solution
Friday, November 12, 2004 - 08:34 AM EST

"I still can't find a wizard that can come up to write a program that will export my calendar from iCal so I can get into my Sidekick," Rush Limbaugh told a caller on his radio show yesterday. "It will export it but like Thanksgiving shows up on November the 10th. Christmas shows up on March the 1st -- and this is chump change! I've been asking somebody to write a program, because I use Apple's iCal program, and I've got a Sidekick, which is the Mac version of the BlackBerry, and I keep my calendar and all the contact data on the computer. I want to I export it to my Sidekick so I can have it when I take it with me, and it just can't be done -- and a simple triple click? I'm about to the point of offering serious money for somebody could do it."

"I'm now getting deluged with e-mail from people who have found for me a program iCal to Sidekick. I have that program, and it is a program that goes back to 2002. People are sending me the web address for VersionTracker. It's a great website out there to get the latest version of software for the Mac OS or for anything else, and I have iCal to Sidekick. But the Mac OS has been, you know, revved and upgraded many times since iCal to Sidekick came out in December of 2002 -- and the author, the lazy bum author of iCal the Sidekick, has not revved his program. It's still a beta that came out in December 2002. Now, it did work for a while. It worked for a while, but all of a sudden the Mac OS gets updated and now dates... It's really... I really don't want to spend all this time talking because most people don't know what I'm talking about here," Limbaugh said.

"I'll just tell you this: All-day events, whatever calendar I have -- home, work, moon phase, whatever -- if I list it as an all-day event like holidays or listed all day events rather than a specific start ask stop time all day events show up on totally inaccurate dates that make no sense. Christmas is on February 3rd, you know, and so I've been trying to get a new rev of this. There's no new rev. There may be now that I'm publicly whining about it, but there hasn't been up till now. So this rev hasn't been done. I've been seeking programmers for a price to commission my own program. I'm just mentioned all this because this is a simple one, and look how difficult it is to make work," Limbaugh said.

Limbaugh is discussing THIS on his radio show?!! wtf

Nov 12, 04 - 09:21 am Comment from: hooty

I heard this call. The reason they were discussing it was the caller was a computer programer who callled in to discuss how hard it would be to "hack" into the voting machines and change the code and thus the votiong results; something alot of liberals have been discussing since the election. Limbaugh then went on to discuss the difficulty of writing code by citing his sidekick example....

Nov 12, 04 - 09:31 am Comment from: joel

Limbaugh has been a serious advocate of the Mac platform for years, routinely championing it (without compensation) on his show. He used to relay stories of his repeated attempts to pitch Apple, but said it was "not interested."

I have not listened to him in a couple of years on a regular basis, so I don't know how much -- if at all -- he has been mentioning it.

Nov 12, 04 - 09:39 am Comment from: rlhamon

I think that the Program is working fine... I believe that Rush is just too Doped up on Oxycoten!

Nov 12, 04 - 09:50 am Comment from: zupchuck

Joel,

Aplle's not interested in Rush pushing their products because Steve Jobs is a Kerry liberal.

Nov 12, 04 - 10:04 am Comment from: Cobra

And because Jobs is literally in bed with Al Gore as well...

Nov 12, 04 - 10:05 am Comment from: joel

I know. This long prior to Kerry, though. IIRC, the Apple line was something to the effect that it did not want a "political" spokesperson, which I certainly can understand. Again, IIRC, Limbaugh's take was Apple did not want a "right" political spokesperson.

To his credit (at least at the time) he still opined heavily in favor of Apple/MacOS, despite Apple's apparent cold shoulder.

I remember he was a passionate advocate for the platform at a time when the ship was sinking after Big Business had long settled on WinTel.

Like him/his politics or not, he was very outspoken on MacOS, even though Apple was in some of its darkest days. And he never wavered or backtracked on his commitment to the Mac.

Nov 12, 04 - 10:22 am Comment from: Jack A

Well I guess the ying yang symbol principle applies everywhere. In the black half of the symbol there is a small circle of white, which in this case represents the fact that Rush is an Apple advocate.

Nov 12, 04 - 10:26 am Comment from: iSteve

He should just take some pills to chill and relax...

Nov 12, 04 - 10:28 am Comment from: Chris

You mean Steve Jobs and Al Gore actually sleep together? I don't think you meant "literally in bed with." I think you meant that Al Gore is literally on the Apple board. I'm so tired of people using the term "literally" incorrectly. I'm literally tired of it. I'm going to take a nap.

Nov 12, 04 - 10:50 am Comment from: Laff

Ah it may be difficult to hack e-voting but the problem is it is NOT impossible.

Also and more worrisome is who say's it has to be a hack to effect the voting. What 'IF" the maker of these voting machines places a "VIRI" like app or firmware option that can be turned off or removed at a whim when it is tested by third parties. Then it is NOT a hack..but a fix.

This is NOT impossbile either...and I've yet to hear any reasonable explination why this will or would not happen.

I need a wizard that takes a big fat, drug filled idiot that spews hate for 3 hours a day and exports him to a
righteous moral bigot. Oh wait I guess I don't need that wizard. Thanks.

Nov 12, 04 - 11:03 am Comment from: Laff

One other question.

Why is it logical to trust so called experts on ANYTHING?

Take this RFID technology that is being planted not only in inventory items but is some cases PEOPLE.

We are told NOT to worry about the implications because RFID tech is very limited and such, and it will only be able to do X. So why should I or you take this so called information as well pardon the expression GOSPEL!?!

So electronic computerized voting is SAFE...and honest. Yeah that's the ticket.

RFID can NOT be used to inventory and track people, or if it can..it will be only used for society's benefit and safety. OK..that's nice.

Am I the ONLY one who see's problems with this!?!

Even though Al Gore didn't invent the internet, there are still people who respect him. Even though Rush is Rush, there are still people who respect him. Being Apple advocates may indeed be the only thing that these two guys can wholeheartedly agree upon, and I like to think that is a good reflection on Apple, no matter what political views one might espouse.

Nov 12, 04 - 11:17 am Comment from: theloniusMac

I find it fascinating you always see this kind of stuff from liberals:

"...I need a wizard that takes a big fat, drug filled idiot that spews hate for 3 hours a day and exports him to a righteous moral bigot. Oh wait I guess I don't need that wizard. Thanks...."

The most mean spirited, vile, hateful language comes from the left, yet ironically they are always tell everyone that the right is the side of hate.

Here's another example: "http://fuckthesouth.com/"

As a black person, I find constant racist rhetoric to also be a mainstay of the so called open-minded left.

I believe once the left figures out that it has become a circus mirror reflection of its former self, and remembers what it was trying to achieve, it will come back strong. Until then, all the irrational ranting, and conspiracy theories, and hate speak, and race bating make the left look like a big UFO cult, something to be aware of but not to be taken too seriously,

Nov 12, 04 - 11:18 am Comment from: Perfusionista

Steve Jobs is not a Kerry liberal. Steve Jobs is an Abbie Hoffman liberationist.

Nov 12, 04 - 11:22 am Comment from: Joe McConnell

Scary thing is thelonius, sometimes they win.

Nov 12, 04 - 11:44 am Comment from: Trace

Well said theloniusMac.

oxycontin_man has probably never listened to Rush, and would never complain about Michael Moore.

Nov 12, 04 - 11:46 am Comment from: G-Spank

Thelonius, you're flat out wrong. The hate filled, mean spirited language is EQUAL from both sides. You're probably blinded by your stance, just like the lefties who can also be blinded. I recommend you go to one of the previous threads that aren't about one person in particular, but more about politics in general, and count the hate filled remarks. The results will probably surprise you.

Nov 12, 04 - 11:48 am Comment from: G-Spank

A good example would be if this thread featured Micheal Moore. How many hate filled remarks would we have to put with then?

Nov 12, 04 - 11:48 am Comment from: ark

you guys are amazing. The LIBERALS are more hate filled? good god. that's the entire foundation of the neo-con political principle. thrive on hate and fear, and completely ignore the evidence and reality. oh yeah, and lie constantly, with assurance, then out of the other side of your mouth, say how much more "Moral" you are.

yeah... that's it, it's all those evil liberals. don't let the facts interfere, whatever you do.

PS: I agree, as much as I personally think Limbaugh is a dirt-bag hypocrite, it was wrong for whoever toslam him based on weight. I would point out, however, that the website http://www.fuckthesouth.com is obviously intended tongue in cheek. perhaps over the top, but it was intended as humor. sorry you didn't notice.

Nice comments on "literally" chris and ly. I'm literally sick of people using "literally" incorrectly (and redundantly). I'm literally going to the bathroom to literally puke.
p.s, I'm wanted to use "literally fed up" but I didn't know how to finish smile

Nov 12, 04 - 12:08 pm Comment from: Bob C

Urban legends sure do persist.

Al Gore did not invent the Internet, but never claimed so either. What he says he claimed, and what is reasonably true, is that he was the one most instrumental in making the Internet what it is today. As chairman of the Senate committee that handled technology (I forget its name), he pushed for legislation that expanded DARPAnet (the original Internet) way beyond its very limited university and research uses. Without him, only a few folks would be using the Internet today, the ones (like me) who used it in the late 70s and 80s. (Yes, there was E-mail, news, and FTP back then but not the world wide web.)

Gore was also responsible for getting the government (the NSF) OUT of the Internet backbone business and allowing private enterprise to expand the size and bandwidth of the current system. As a reward for his good work in this area, Gore has largely suffered, smeared with negative political charges.

Nov 12, 04 - 12:12 pm Comment from: theloniusMac

Ark...

Perhaps you're right. It just doesn't explain what I see and what I hear. The rhetoric from the left is often extremely angry and violent, like "fuckthesouth.com." Perhaps you think it's tongue and cheek, like all the calls for the President to be assassinated, the name calling and so on. I live in Hollywood, my next door neighbor put a Bush/Cheny sticker on her car. I cautioned her about it. Sure enough, some loving left winger keyed her car from front to back and scratched FUCK BUSH on the hood.

This is the kind of hate I see from the left. Again, being black, I have felt respected and welcomed by the right. The left makes me feel inferior, as if I have to live in a certain box, a category. I am incapable since I am black and without the Democratic party, I can't even find a job. It's the most insidious kind of racism.

I'm tellin ya ark, the left needs to take a good long hard look in the mirror and get progressive on themselves.

Nov 12, 04 - 12:13 pm Comment from: Krioni

Well, good thing they decided to avoid picking a politically-controversial figure like Al Gore who has publicly ranted "He betrayed this country! He played on our fears!" in a Howard Dean-style screaming voice. He sounded like he had lost his mind.

If Apple and Al Gore were smart, they could make a commercial playing off the whole "let's reach across party lines" news theme. Even better, some kind of large payment to the Beatles to settle that lawsuit and get the rights to "Come Together" (which has been used by others in commercials), and do a big event where Rush Limbaugh and Al Gore meet and discover they BOTH thinks Macs are great - maybe even have Paul McCartney show up, too.

"Thank God! Al Gore did not invent the internet or even help with it. Complete BS."

Ned is DEAD wrong.

How about some facts?

On CNN's Wolf Blitzer show (March 9, 1999) Gore said, " During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the Internet" meaning the new expanded Internet.

AP, on March 11, 1999, had the item that Gore "was the leader in Congress on the connections between data transmission and computing power, what we call information technology. And those efforts helped to create the Internet that we know today."

Almost always, Gore is today quoted WITHOUT the context and the introductory prefix about service in congress, just as Bush is widely quoted as saying he's not worried about Osama or that we'll never win the war on terrorism. Context is everything, Ned.

Get a grip, OK?

Nice source there moosemeat. Keep on reading those "news" sources and you'll be sure to not learn a thing...

Nov 12, 04 - 02:06 pm Comment from: Laff

Hey meat!

I read some of that, but lost interest not long into it. I'm curious just what is an eBrigade?

I'll give you fanatics one thing you are well organized and do tend to walk in step very well. Me I'm not a team player in the least. If we ever do come under attack and I am forced to defend myself and my family...I would not choose to join in any miltary (cause I can't take orders worth a blank) but I'd pick one of my many long range weapons and simply go out and shoot those who treaten me..I like working alone anyway.

However I will admit there is something to be said for this ant conlony mentality. Everyone jumping into work for a common cause. Still being an ant is not all that apealing too me.

Call me crazy (It won't be the first nor the last time) but I need no bible, nor god, nor preacher, or leader to tell me how I should think or what is right and wrong. I already know these things...and I much prefer to think for myself.

G spank, how silly to cherry pick quotes. Very Olbermanish of you.

Being a conservative from a blue county in a blue state, I know a lot about the hate that liberals feel for those that don't agree with them. Owning a TV only reinforces my knowledge. I was very happy to see the election pass, and was almost hoping that Kerry would win, since the whining resultant after Bush's win is predictable and wearing, and, indeed, there isn't that much difference to be had no matter who is president. However, it is worth bearing the whining to put off the success of Rather, Springsteen, Kennedy, Moore et. al. for another four years.

Al, I can hit a curve ball too!

Nov 12, 04 - 02:16 pm Comment from: ERRGH!

we [in the blue states] have a right to be bitter...i live in nyc, we faced the most horrible terror attack and who did we vote for? it wasn.t W. why should a bunch of wing-nut, red-necks get to decide my future? the re-election of W makes a terror attack more likely...ask anyone who lives here. i.m pissed now, but when the next tower comes down, i.ll lead the charge for nyc sucession...i wish the south would.ve won the f'ing civil war.

i cant find the link to a little test done by some conservative who wore a Kerry/Edwards t shirt around a red county and a Bush/Cheney tee around downtown NY. His unscientific results were A) disinterest concerning the former and B) 120 octane vitriol concerning the later, including spitting, threats, uncountable middle fingers etc. Of course NYers are known to be up front about stuff, but even my stoned out neighbors got quite excercised about displays of Repubicanism. (Not mine btw, I fly under the radar).

Nov 12, 04 - 02:45 pm Comment from: G-Spank

Joe, I didn't "cherry pick", the quote reflected quite accurately the tone of the entire article. The fact that you want to defend a "news" source like this says something about your convictions. If you want to use logic (and I think you do), don't choose that source as your battleground.

As for your perception about liberals "whining", well what can I say. I mean, the conservatives know that 98% of the media is made of a liberal elite, and hey all they can do is WHINE WHINE WHINE about it. But that's my perception of the whiny conservatives.

No matter who was elected, the other side would whine. The fact is, your Georgie boy has won the election, and now let's see how great a job he continues to do running this country. He's your man, and you have the credit if he does great things for the country, or the disgrace if he runs it into the ground. Let's see what Health Care looks like in 4 years, what our Deficit is in 4 years, what our Foreign Policy will have accomplished/wrecked in 4 years, and what our Economy is doing in 4 years.

Good luck...

TheloniusMac,

As a black southerner, perhaps you should consider:

Who voted for the 1964 Civil Rights Act. (Dems)

Who voted against it. (Reps)

What the Civil Rights Act of 1964 means to you. (Much)

That you are a conservative black southerner who chooses to side with the party that opposed the freedom of his ethnic group while attacking the party that placed itself in political jeopardy championing it is amazing, baffling, and an American story.
