Regardless of whether either image is correct, wouldn't having a portable version of Mac OS X on an iPod be the perfect way to evangelize the Mac OS? Think about that. Killer.

Looking at the real-er one closely, one can see that it is a fake. Most of the color bars are photoshopped.

Now these things on their own are hard enough to believe. Taken together, things get a little more squirrly — add the fact that, according to comments on the site, the product number on the device is that of OS X.2 server.

Well, there was never a Mac OS X 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, or 1. The long name for the current generation of Mac OS X is "Mac OS X 10.4.5."

It is truely extraordinary how many people have gone ga-ga over a freak'n screen with a color bar display. It that's the new iPod we're in deep doo doo, Gawd that's ugly.

Don't know if this has been posted yet (sorry if it has been but I didn't have time to read all of the posts above), but the bottom picture is definitely a fake. Aside from the wrong application versions, look how they are set up alphabetically. There is a scroll bar on the right-hand side. Safari is the last one seen on the screen. The size of the scroll bar indicates that there are probably another 6 apps on the screen that we can't see. Can anyone think of 6 apps that would appear after Safari alphabetically that Apple could include on this? I can't. The top photo may be real, though.

A video iPod controlled by smearing your oily finger all over the screen would be a retarded idea. And in the unlikely event that Apple actually releases such a device, I will still consider it a retarded idea. Steve Jobs will need several 10kW RDF boosters blasting at full power to convince us that watching video through fingerprint smudges is a dandy experience.

Guys, Safari is already at version 2.0.3. Why would Apple regress to version 1.1?

Well ya know, the "X" in OS X is the roman numeral for 10. This is just a guess now, but I would assume that after Mac OS 9… it became Mac OS 10, or, by using the roman numeral, Mac OS X.

Innovation is not only creation, but also application. If it's been done before, but it's been done wrong every time, until you come along, you're an innovator. No one is saying that Apple invented MP3 players. They simply made one that works well, and is easy to use. That is innovation.

Seriously guys, does no one read what each other are saying? People are still harping on about the fact that the versions of the apps on the bottom photo are old. I don't know how many people have said this, the bottom picture is an old, artist's mock-up of what people would like to see!!!

Also on the chinese picture, the chinese on the dock connector says 'This Side Up'

In the 163.com article, between the picture and the specs is a line of text that translates to: "conceptual (or imaginary) rendering". The article is not saying this is what they expect Apple to release. They're just saying this would be nice to have. Notice the date of the article, 2004.

In the first article, totally fake. The white cord is clearly a power cord. No way Apple would clunker it up with an AV cable that looks so ugly and thick. And in both instances, no way Steve allows an Apple product out the door without at least a tiny Apple logo on the front.

Chinese Reader: Although I have no clue whether the image is real or not, it seems to me the large cable could be something used for testing only.

And as far as an Apple logo on the front, the current iPods have the logo on the back.

I wonder whether people think the product in the image is the same size as a current 5G iPod? Assuming the connector on the side is the same size as a current iPod dock connector, it looks to me to be the same width and length as the 5G...

Haha, you guys know I always like to keep up on the rumours surrounding my little miracle I like to call the iPod. I'm going to keep mum on this one but I will say that I hope you are already for one more thing by Tuesday the 28th!
