Report: Motorola teams with O2 carrier for Apple iTunes phone in UK
Thursday, September 01, 2005 - 10:30 AM EST

The London Times is reporting that Motorola will team with mobile carrier O2 to offer Apple iTunes phones in the UK "in the next few weeks."

"Apple is expected to unveil the new technology in the United States in partnership with Cingular Wireless next week. A British launch is expected shortly after, with the new devices available in time for the Christmas shopping season," The Times reports. "It is understood that confirmation of the partnership could come as soon as today. O2 will have a period of exclusivity on the latest version of the new iPod."

In the report, The London Times states that the phones will allow customers to "buy music while on the move, enhancing the power of the iconic device." Other reports have indicated that the phone would only allow for transfer of music from a Mac or Windows PC via Apple's iTunes software.

There's The New York Times and The Los Angeles Times, but there is no London Times. It's The Times, of London.

Today's 'Daily Express' in the UK carried a colour photograph of the new iTunes compatible phone. It looks like an existing iPod with a slide-out telephone keypad.

O2 doesn't have their own music service. You may be thinking of OD2 (On Demand Distribution) which provides content for a lot of the WMA online music services, suck as mycokemusic.co.uk, HMV, Virgin, MSN and so on.
