Forbes: Apple ‘could be debuting just about anything’ on September 7
Saturday, September 03, 2005 - 09:30 AM EDT

"Does Apple Computer Chief Executive Steve Jobs have any tricks up his black mock turtleneck's sleeves? Last week, Apple distributed an e-mail to members of the media hinting at a new product release on Sept. 7. '1000 songs in your pocket changed everything. Here we go again,' teased the e-mail. Most observers figure this is evidence that Apple and Motorola will finally release a long-anticipated iTunes-enabled cell phone, as well as an agreement with wireless carrier Cingular, a joint venture between BellSouth (nyse: BLS - news - people ) and SBC Communications. But Jobs is famous for confounding and surprising folks, and could be debuting just about anything. The iTunes phone is virtually a lock, but also keep your eyes open for new flash-memory based iPod Minis, a phone-based version of the company's Web Safari browser, or even a video-capable iPod," David M. Ewalt writes for Forbes.

As long as it's ANYTHING besides that damned phone ... I am hoping SJ has some real surprises for us.

Thankfully I am on vacation on the 7th ... not like much work would have been accomplished that morning smile

1-Click buying enabled ... check.

We're only getting the phone on September 7th. Motorolas chief exec is on the record as saying that the iTunes phone merited its own event.

Everything else will be released at Paris.

Sep 03, 05 - 11:44 am Comment from: Ralph

What time is the event starting? PST

Sep 03, 05 - 11:48 am Comment from: Derrick

10 AM PST I believe

Maybe there will be a mobile version of iChat in those phones.

Sep 03, 05 - 12:16 pm Comment from: Ron Balnger

all this hype over a phone that plays music?
whoo-hoo....b.f.d.

Tip to Derrick - you need to get a life. seriously. You spend your vacation waiting for news about a phone from Motorola that plays music????
unhook the computer...get away from it for at least a week. get a life.

Sep 03, 05 - 12:35 pm Comment from: Derrick

Ron:

Honestly, I don't care about the phone at all ... I am more interested in what else might be unveiled ... as a shareholder, I think I should pay attention to what is going on.

You seem to be jumping to conclusions about how I spend my vacation time ... no need for concern.

I hope they release something like the Zaurus SL-C3100. This device runs Linux and KDE with all the goodies. Just Google pdaxrom for more info. If they made a Mac OS X version of this it would sell like hot cakes! Every Mac person would buy one in a heart beat. Plus it also runs on intel chips!

SJ doesn't like to give anything away too early, sooooooo

This is going to be something special. It has come as a bit of a surprise to all and he has titillated us with an old slogan. Typically his titillation might have nothing to do with the really BIG NEWS he will unleash upon us all.

Give it to us BIG TIME Mr. JOBS, WE ARE WORTHY, VERY WORTHY.

Sep 03, 05 - 04:18 pm Comment from: Ryan

heh heh heh.

"titillation"...

Correctamundo about the Moto iTunes phone. Who cares. My Treo has been playing 1GB of MP3's for over a year.

Lots of hype over this....the press continues to get a big HO every time Apple teases them a bit. Jobs had better have something a lot bigger to announce or he will soon be labelled the little boy who cried wolf.

You guys have such limited imaginations!!

I'm betting my money on phone+iSight+iChat+H.264 = the best videophone on the planet that is fully and seamlessly compatible with landline and internet chatting (i.e., mobile to iChat connections).

But, the REAL surprise will be Apple adding true ISP service to its .Mac which will also include high-speed mobile-to-internet service so mobile videophones and any other data can go to any point in the world via internet, and thus no long distance fees while maintaining 100% QuickTime quality via highspeed data transfer rates.

Apple users will rapidly advance with telecommunications technology, and Microsoft users will be sitting there chewing on stale bones and picking fleas off of each other in their caves as they try to upload $5.00 ringtones into their "hightech" phones.

Yeah but if we're still only 6 or 7 percent of the market whatever, we'll only be talking to eachother. Might end up being the better set up but with not many to talk to.

This phone should have been out before the IPOD--
Im not the least bit excited about this phone. The phone
market is totally saturated. They might as well come
out with an Apple/Motorola VCR. Or Apple Beer.
Apple Sauce. Its high time for a video product. And if
you want to be innovative--how about being innovative--How about
putting 2 chips in the lap tops for one? How about a device
that links max mini's in an aggragate computer with
N chips? How about high definition monitors ? Mac Panties
and for heaven's sake keep intel outside OR equip every mac
with software which will enable it to use any OS

Holy crap Lisa, are you always this dumb?

Fantastic, just what you need in a machine where heat emission and energy usage are the most important factors, MORE CHIPS!

And HiDef monitors? No chance in hell you will EVER be able to buy a Hidef monitor from Apple, unless of course you head over to apple.com and pick from their range of Hidef monitors. The 30inch, btw, goes over the spec of hidef by quite a lot.

And I'm not sure what you want to 'aggragrate' mac minis for, if people want to cluster PCs they tend to avoid the piece of shit bottom of the range toys like the mini. The solution, by the way, is called Gigabit ethernet and is standard on the real computers from apple.

Your ideas for innovation are not innovative.
