CSFB: Apple to unveil iPod shuffle, iPod mini units with greater disk space ‘throughout the year’

"Credit Suisse First Boston expects Apple Computer to unveil an 'iPod shuffle capacity and functionality refresh later this summer or early fall.' CSFB also sees Apple increasing its iPod mini capacities 'throughout the year,'" Forbes reports. "The research firm reiterated an 'outperform' rating on Apple and expects 'solid results' when the company reports fiscal third-quarter earnings on July 13."

The consensus estimate for Apple's fiscal third quarter is 30.4 cents per share.

Well, on the other tentacle, this does show that Apple doesn't intend to 'rest on its laurels' like some other analysts have worried. Apple intends to keep the line refreshed and keep up the price point pressure on Creative.

Nothing investors like to see more than a little hustle on the court....

charging for podcasts? ha. i'm not going to pay for old news. to me, its like MDN charging me 5/month to read the archives. i dont do that for free, why would i pay?

Um, where the hell do you get the "charging for Podcasts" thing? Podcasts are available for free, there is no charge, even through the iTunes Music Store.

Carl is actually quoting the article, although the opinion of CSFB is probably largely defective in this case.

We may well see 'premium' podcasts bearing some form of charge in the fullness of time, but these will be few and far between.

I thought the whole point of the shuffle was that it had a small amount of music so the lack of display wasn't a big deal. Would you want an 8GB displayless iPod? Maybe it's just my lusting after the 60GB iPod with color display speaking...
