Baltimore Sun: Vice President Dick Cheney a confirmed Apple iPod user
Thursday, April 01, 2004 - 09:48 AM EST

"It's been a quarter-century since the Cheney family, dog included, piled into an RV and traveled around Wyoming, going from rodeo to small-town parade in that summer of 1978 to urge voters to elect Dick Cheney to the U.S. House of Representatives," Susan Baer reports for The Baltimore Sun.

"Today, the family is out in full force again, with the vice president's two grown daughters putting aside their careers to devote themselves to their father's political success - Elizabeth Cheney, 37, traveling the country giving speeches for the Bush-Cheney re-election team; Mary Cheney, 35, overseeing her father's vice presidential run," Baer reports. "With political instincts honed over three decades of watching their father navigate the currents of power, the two women have emerged as two of his closest advisers and confidantes, trusted allies fiercely devoted to him and the Bush agenda."

Baer reports, "Vice President Cheney has evolved over the past three years into a sort of dark, mysterious figure, his retreats to 'undisclosed locations' a metaphor for the nearly invisible yet powerful role he's played. His family life, too, has been kept largely under wraps, though in some ways it is remarkably ordinary, right down to the iPod the vice president received from his children for Christmas."

MacDailyNews Take: Just how many Perry Como tunes fit in an iPod, you ask? Sorry, that's classified information.

Now this is one to stay way from!

Apr 01, 04 - 10:17 am Comment from: CitizenX

It won't save him from the firing squad.

Apr 01, 04 - 10:20 am Comment from: Boeing777

If I was younger, I think I would have cared.
WHO GIVES A SHIT if he uses ipod or not.
Politicians of this current "government" shouldn't be mentioned in this forum.

Apr 01, 04 - 10:22 am Comment from: Trevor7578

Right on Dick Cheney!

Four more years! Four more years! Four more years! Four more years! Four more years! Four more years! Four more years! Four more years! Four more years! Four more years! Four more years! Four more years! Four more years! Four more years! Four more years! Four more years! Four more years! Four more years! Four more years! Four more years!

Apr 01, 04 - 10:22 am Comment from: Dave H

Is there any way we can send a firmware update to it, so it explodes and takes off his head?

grin

Apr 01, 04 - 10:24 am Comment from: Enlightened One

Boeing,

Why do you feel the need to curse at one of our respected national leaders? Please show some respect. You are acting like a child.

Apr 01, 04 - 10:27 am Comment from: pkradd

There goes the neighborhood!

Apr 01, 04 - 10:28 am Comment from: Concerned Citizen

Dave H,

There's nothing smiley face funny about your post. I'm going to send a tip to the FBI that you have threatened our VP you terrorist!

Apr 01, 04 - 10:29 am Comment from: Dave H

CC, go on and send it to them. Then they can laugh at you as much as I do.

Apr 01, 04 - 10:30 am Comment from: Concerned Citizen

We'll see.

Apr 01, 04 - 10:32 am Comment from: NoPCZone

It is strange that the same liberal-types that preach tolerance seem to always take to personal attacks against anyone who is conservative. Actions speak louder than words. It's not what you say you are, but how you conduct your life that measures your values and beliefs. Although I do not see eye-to-eye with the VP on many things, he is a decent and honorable man. I wonder if he uses a PB, I know GWB uses one.

Apr 01, 04 - 10:32 am Comment from: Boeing777

Enlightened One

Show some respect you said? If you still believe in liars that's your problem. I don't have respect for those who have no respect for their people and lie to them in a regular basis.

Don't drag me into a political debate. I don't think you're fit to defend something despicable

With all my respect to those who deserve it.

Peace

Apr 01, 04 - 10:38 am Comment from: Mac User

The attitudes of Boeing777 and Dave H are one of the main reasons Republicans control all branches of the U.S. federal government and a majority of state governorships and legislatures. Your hateful intolerance discredit your ideas--if you didn't exist, Republicans would try to invent you. All self-respecting liberals should disassociate themselves from you and your ilk.

Apr 01, 04 - 10:40 am Comment from: Enough already.

you gotta be kidding me. another freakin' iPod story. and about the Dick at that. what the hell MDN??!!!!

Apr 01, 04 - 10:41 am Comment from: Enlightened One

Boeing,

I don't know how you can say with such confidence that Cheney is a liar. How do you know? You are insulting this person and I don't see any proof to back it up. We know nothing about you yet you viscously and personally attack the number 2 person in the US government. Please show some respect.

Apr 01, 04 - 10:43 am Comment from: Boeing777

I told you guys, Politicians from the current “Liar government” shouldn't be mentioned in here.

Apple create, Bush's administration destroy. We're going two opposite ways and some of us like a “concerned citizen” has called another Apple admirer a terrorist!

Please, ban any politicians name from this forum. Especially liars from the bush gang

Apr 01, 04 - 10:46 am Comment from: Concerned Citizen

Anyone who plots to kill the Vice President of the United States is a terrorists and murderer to be. You Al Franken wanabes are really disgusting. Email sent to FBI by the way.

Apr 01, 04 - 10:50 am Comment from: Boeing777

Politics makes some of us do pathetic things.

Apr 01, 04 - 10:56 am Comment from: iSteve

I hope Mary Cheney isn't fully supporting the Bush agenda - then she couldn't marry her lesbian partner.

I hope she filled his iPod with music by all gay artists like Mellissa Etheridge, Elton John, George Michael, Rufus Wainwright (just performed at the new Apple store in SF), K.D. Lang, etc...

Apr 01, 04 - 10:59 am Comment from: Dave H

Excellent CC. And I'll just remind you that with the FBI bothering with the likes of me, there's less of them to protect the likes of you. With your armed forces abroad, I'd say their agents have real work to do, but if you want to waste their time, you go ahead. I'll await the knock on the door.

Apr 01, 04 - 11:00 am Comment from: Nathan

Perhaps Mary Cheney believes that marriage is for a man and a woman only and she has no intention of entering into a charade with her "partner?" Maybe she believes civil liberties granted to homosexual couples is enough or maybe she even believes that's unnecessary?

Just because someone's gay doesn't mean they believe in gay marriage. Although the media would have you think differently, don't fall for it. (Hint: many union members actually vote Republican, <sarcasm>believe it or not</sarcasm>).

I would have thought this point to be obvious, but we seem to be dealing with products of an American public eductaional system here, so even the simpliest points have to be spelled out.

Apr 01, 04 - 11:04 am Comment from: Fred Mertz

Uh oh, Nathan, now you've gone and injected common sense into this thread. How silly of you!

Apr 01, 04 - 11:04 am Comment from: wtf

I think I'm going to look around for a better Mac news site. This fluff (and that stupid april fools link before) are just wasting my time.

Apr 01, 04 - 11:06 am Comment from: Gomer

But, don't all the gays want gay marriage? And don't all the union members vote democrat? And don't all the women want abortion?

Apr 01, 04 - 11:07 am Comment from: MCCFR

Is Concerned Citizen actually serious?

Surely wasting the time of the FBI is more serious than wondering if a firmware update could be engineered to blow the Veep's head off.

First of all, does Dave H have the technical skills to write such a firmware update?

Secondly, could a firmware update blow someone's head off?

Thirdly, wouldn't the FBI have to send a field agent to Liverpool (Dave H's home town) to check him out - which sounds like a waste of time to me. No disrespect to Liverpool, even though I am a Man U fan.

What a dickhead.

Apr 01, 04 - 11:10 am Comment from: Boeing777

Dave H. I have just checked the list of wanted criminal. I haven't seen yours listed yet.
Here, check for yourself:

Apr 01, 04 - 11:16 am Comment from: BA

<<I told you guys, Politicians from the current “Liar government” shouldn't be mentioned in here.>>

Yawn...Who cares when you moron libs can't ever come up with an intelligent argument against the current administration, all you ever do is resort to juvenile name calling and other childish acts. You know, you're going to have to deal with another 4+ years of this, so you better learn how to deal with it a little better.

Apr 01, 04 - 11:22 am Comment from: Jack A

I am glad he uses an iPod. He is going to need something to do after he doesn't get re-elected. grin

George Bush has gotten out of hand and has to go. He is bad for the environment, He is bad for how the rest of the world sees the US, and He is bad for the civil liberties of the American people. He used the fear everyone had after 9/11 to implement his own personal political agenda. He is only good for big business and the hard right religious faction.

Apr 01, 04 - 11:24 am Comment from: Dave H

Boeing, of course I'm not on there yet. All the agents are too busy booking trans-Atlantic flights to care about updating some webpage. Good job I put in the Wi-Fi, so I can stay onlline while I dig my bolthole in the back garden. Now, where did I put my suitcase full of dollars?

Apr 01, 04 - 11:24 am Comment from: Sara

CC - To respect a politician they have to respect their electorate. They are meant to work FOR YOU not for their own agenda whatever that maybe. As for Mary Cheney you go girl & do whatever you want & forget about all the bigoted people in the world.
By the way I dont live in your country & I'm not a lesbian.

Apr 01, 04 - 11:26 am Comment from: Dave H

MCCFR, thanks, but Liverpool is another of us Limeys. I'm the one that lives in London. grin

Apr 01, 04 - 11:27 am Comment from: Joe McConnel

mdn is pulling chains well recently.

dave h, question, how much does beer cost in the uk? son was over there playing rugby and couldnt afford to eat cuz of beer prices.

sorry for poor typing broke wrist, will no doubt sadden many here wink

another ? for anyone.......applecare on a new 1.8 g5.... yes or no?

Apr 01, 04 - 11:28 am Comment from: Jack A

P.S. I am not a liberal, I am a moderate. I was for the war in Afghanistan but could not see the need to rush into Iraq. Young George just wanted to go in and fix what old George screwed up in the first place. It is much easier to send kids off to war when you have never even seen a bullet fired in anger. That all of his personal records such as his service record are sealed and not open to public inspection speaks volumes.

Apr 01, 04 - 11:29 am Comment from: Jimbo von Winskinheimer

Yesterday, IBM debuted the Power5 chip, which may very well be the future of Mac computing. No story here. Had to go to http://www.macminute for that. Here, we get iPod stories and political discussions which typically ride at about a third grade level

Apr 01, 04 - 11:30 am Comment from: Al Franken

Go Bush!! Four more years!! Four more years!

Apr 01, 04 - 11:31 am Comment from: G Spank

Trevor, why aren't you in iraq trying to kill people for georgie boy? If you haven't already - sign the hell up! You are just the kind of guy that needs to give his life for the cause!

Apr 01, 04 - 11:32 am Comment from: Dave H

Hello Joe. Sorry to hear about the wrist. Beer prices here depend on which town you're in. In London, you need to take out a mortgage for a night out, but it gets cheaper away from South-East England.

Glad to see you've encouraged him to take up the beautiful game too. What position does he play?

Apr 01, 04 - 11:33 am Comment from: shempzilla

Strange, Jack A, I'm not a big business, a religious fanatic, or wealthy. But yet I like Bush. Hmm, how can this be? Perhaps it is because I agree with most (not all) of what he has to say. But, wait... that would mean you're childish characterizations of anyone who would vote for him must be... idiotic. Well, that just couldn't be, Oh well. BTW, how other countries view us is important, but frankly it's down at the bottom of my list. I would never want us to do/not do something simply because other countries might run home to their mommies. We have to do what we think is right an is ultimately in the best interests of the USA and our real allies.

Apr 01, 04 - 11:33 am Comment from: Jack A

Joe, I would recommend applecare. On the off chance something does go wrong it really is good to have.

Does this mean you are getting (or have bought) a G5? If so I will be really looking forward to hearing your opinion of it after you have been on it for a while.

Apr 01, 04 - 11:34 am Comment from: Jay Rice

Way to go BA. These Michael Moore fools never, ever, can back up any of their name calling. It is a crime to threaten the president of the US. I don't know about the VP. A threat's a threat though.

Apr 01, 04 - 11:37 am Comment from: Jack A

Shempzilla, when did I characterize someone who would vote for Bush?

I thought I just made an observation on who his policies are benefiting most.

Heck, my Mom is probably gonna vote for Bush and I like her fine.

Apr 01, 04 - 11:40 am Comment from: Mac User

Jimbo's right that MDN should have covered the Power5 chip, but it's not MDN's fault that a simple story highlighting a national figure's use of Apple products turned into a primary school name-calling event. Though it may be hard for some on this thread to believe it, identifying the VP (or POTUS) as Apple users increases acceptance of the brand for many less/non partisan folks.

Apr 01, 04 - 11:43 am Comment from: Dave H

Woo hoo!! Can I have vanilla in my latte if I turn myself in?

Apr 01, 04 - 11:44 am Comment from: Trevor7578

Keep calling people names and making unfounded accusations liberals. You look more and more pathetic with each post.

Apr 01, 04 - 11:49 am Comment from: Joe McConnel

hooker mainly, sometimes wing. he had a blast in the uk.

whats a sixpack (or whatever) cost in your local safeway (or whatever)? thanks

Apr 01, 04 - 11:50 am Comment from: deepkid

Here's to hoping he enjoys that iPod when he's retired in the upcoming presidential election. :D

Apr 01, 04 - 11:51 am Comment from: Boeing777

Dave H - Okay, but you have to read this first:

http://www.ecolivingcenter.com/board/main/messages/1449.html

Apr 01, 04 - 11:55 am Comment from: Dave H

Joe, it's about £4 for four cans of Kronenbourg, but I think that's quite an expensive one. That's the only beer I drink, so I couldn't tell you about any others.

Apr 01, 04 - 11:57 am Comment from: Joe McConnel

thxs dave, at least you have to limit yourself to 8 cans a day then!

Apr 01, 04 - 12:01 pm Comment from: shempzilla

Jack A, you said "He is only good for big business and the hard right religious faction." If that was not meant to characterize those who would vote for him, then you are saying anybody not in those categories who would vote for him is stupid. Certainly it wouldn't make sense to vote for somebody who won't benefit you in any way. Now, perhaps that is not what you intended to say, but that's the only way it can logically make sense. So if you don't think your mom's an idiot, then you shouldn't say Bush's policies are only good for a select few. Anyway, I agree with everybody else so far who has said that MDN needs to worry more about shoring up its shaky Mac reporting than posting more news about who does and doesn't use an iPod. We just don't care.
