Apple to hold special media event next Tuesday
Tuesday, February 21, 2006 - 01:52 PM EST

In an email sent today to media outlets, Apple has invited the media to visit Apple's Cupertino, Calif., headquarters, Apple Town Hall, Building 4 at 10am PST next Tuesday, February 28 to "Come see some fun new products from Apple." The invitation includes nothing more than an iCal image of a calendar with the date Feb. 28.

"Sam Bhavnani, an analyst at market researcher Current Analysis, said he thinks Apple may introduce a 17-inch MacBook Pro as well as a redesigned iBook with a 13-inch widescreen display," Ina Fried reports for CNET News. "'The reason to expect an iBook announcement is so that Apple is able to have sufficient quantities shipping in time for back to school,' Bhavnani said in an e-mail interview. 'The fact that Apple started shipping Intel products ahead of schedule means it is serious about winning 'switchers,' and key to getting Windows customers will be to have systems that cost significantly less than $2,000.' Bhavnani said that an ideal iBook would arrive in time for the education buying season, cost $999, and include Intel's Core Duo chip."

"In Orange County California, you can't even buy the kitchen in a starter home for $200,000.. In fact, you'd be hard pressed to find any home at all in OC for under $500,000... And that gets you about 1000 square feet..."

Ummm............

Back on topic...
iCal definitely has something to do with it.
Most likely just adding an input device to the current iPod since they already have most of the PDA functionality. Just need to add some input.

The Other Mark...

Not to jack the thread, but that's what I said... You'd be hard pressed to find a home in Orange County for less than 500,000

Since the data that you are showing says the average price for a home in OC is around $582,000 that makes sense...

you can buy a decent small condo in the 400's, and a small single family fixer upper house for around $500k.

Someone who works for Apple has hinted that the 'living room will never be the same.'

Feb 22, 06 - 12:36 am Comment from: Voyager

Come on... an input device for iPod?
iWork with Numbers?!?!
MacBooks?

None of these are particularly "fun" items! I don't know what we will see on the 28th, and neither do the rest of you... so why don't we consult the authority on the subject?

Kevin Rose? Calling Kevin Rose..............

Not to be too ebullient about the man... but he definitely doesn't come up with his 'predictions' by staring into his alphabet soup.

He is, quite simply..... the new Time Canada.

wink

Mike-

I agree with you. Just providing data. I've lived in Santa Monica for the past, well forever until about 18 months ago. And the housing prices there! Yikes.

So my wife suggested we move to somewhere "cheaper"....Boulder, CO...NOT! (At least in CO you can usually get a backyard)

iPod rollerblades. And a Segway with built in iSight.

And an iFridge with iCedispenser.

Apple is very careful about what it says and shows on these invitations. There's nothing in the picture- that's just a calendar reminder, but the word "fun" is significant. To me that means iPods and iPod products (new shuffle and BoomBox (and maybe that long-awaited break-out box for GarageBand)). iBooks and possibly Mac minis could be "fun new products" with FrontRow, but Apple would never call a Pro desktop or MacBook Pro a "fun" product (even if they are fun to use) because they are ahem… "business" machines.

It's an iPie.

A 3 ghz dessert with a click wheel carved into the crust.
Comes in three varieties of Apple. No trans fat, USB, and an enticing aroma.
WARNING: Filling is hot!
The Single Core iPie uses a revolutionary cooling design that does not require a fan, so it runs in virtual silence. Cooling is provided by the air flowing through the iPies’s center vertical cooling channel.
It's also seedless which means beta testing was unnecessary. It will be available immediately at Publix and Albertson's in the U.S. Exports will not be allowed as it this device could potentially be used by rogue nations as a weapon of miniature destruction.

Tuesday is my birthday and I like birthday surprises! Two years ago I was in SF for the opening of the SF Apple store on my birthday.

I think I'm going to feel obligated to buy whatever it is they introduce...

Steve Jobs told me personally (I will now be sued for leaking this info of course), that it's to announce that they are ahead of schedule on their OS and will be releasing Mac OS X Vista on the 28th. It will be available for purchase "IMMEDIATELY" when the store re-opens after the announcement....

JOKE! - for those about to flame.......

Seriously, I'll start speculating on March 1st.
