Apple ousts Google as top global brand
Sunday, January 30, 2005 - 01:26 PM EDT

"In the survey of almost 2,000 ad executives, brand managers and academics by online magazine Brandchannel, Apple ousted search engine Google from last year's top spot," Trevor Datson reports for Reuters. "The annual survey asks respondents to rate the impact of a particular brand on people's lives, and does not attempt to quantify its financial value."

"Apple... topped both the global and North American rankings in the poll, displacing Google despite the splash caused by the search engine's $1.7 billion auction-style initial public offering last year," Datson reports. "Apple, which launched the iPod three years ago, has sold 10 million of them, but the fact that almost half of these were moved in the final quarter of 2004 suggests an avalanche in demand. 'Apple's just done an extraordinary job with innovation, technology and design. The iPod is what has put Apple in the lead this year,' Brandchannel Editor Robin Rusch said."

OK. We need a new verb, 'cause you really haven't got a total "brand" until what used to be a noun has transformed.

So...no longer will we talk about people who have "switched" from PCs to Apple computers. We will talk about people who have been Mac'ed. Hmmm. Doesn't spell very well. Suggestions?

I do like the idea of people saying "I've been Macs'ed out"

Those who refuse/wont/cant 'switch' - what to call those folks? NonSwitchers? The 'unSwitched'?

Way to go, Apple!

Sylvio:
I have always referred to those who haven't switched as simply STUPID.

There is a word: "defenestrated". It literally means to fall out of a window, but I also think it could be applied to going away from Windows...

Jan 30, 05 - 05:48 pm Comment from: concerned

Would it be dorky to have a shirt that says "I was using Apple products when you were struggling with Windows 95. Don't come the 'Switcher' with me."?

It couldn't be worse than "The first time Microsoft produces smething that doesn't suck...etc"

Jan 30, 05 - 05:49 pm Comment from: Malice

hahah, "defenestrated" should be the word of the day. And Go Apple!

It's going to be fun in the coming months hearing about switches who just switched recently and can't believe what they've been missing all this time.

How about the 'unenlightened masses' or 'poor virus-ridden devils'
Luckily for them there is a cure. And the medicine doesn't even taste bad. It tastes like kool aid. wink

To steal from Rush Limbaugh: The Great Unwashed.

Ehy, don't forget Steve's PIxar at the 5th place in North America, but also none of the brands were in the top 5 in Latin America...or Asia...and ok they aren't the most consumers, but in numbers....better to think about in the next 5 years or so....

I converted my girlfriend today. She finally got sick of her Compaq Desktop, so we went out and bought her a 12" G4 iBook! It is SO SWEET!

Let's see... that's 10 converted in the last 10 months. I'm on a roll!

The unSwitched are "the beleaguered masses," by definition.

--The annual survey asks respondents to rate the impact of a particular brand on people's lives

The winner should have been Microsoft on the sheer number of internet casualties from its malware-addicted OS. The beleaguered masses hardly dare to do such mundane but time-saving activities like internet banking as they are too busy swatting bugs.

On another note, it seems that the XBox team installed OS X 10.2.3 on an XBox using Pear PC or something. Took 10 hours for the OS X installer to do its job. I wonder why the XBox team bothered unless some of them really need it to ... uh, pay bills.

This post brought to you by the word 'pattern', as in, it's time they stopped this pattern of destructive behavior so they can do something constructive on an Apple computer!
